Winner! Sorry, I missed your post yesterday (probably becuase you posted at exactly the same time as me!)

 

 

For those not around at the time, before it became common for almost all printers to have network ports fitted, you had to use something like this, where the print server would connect to the network and you'd connect your printer via a parallel cable to the device.

With these, it wasn't uncommon for them to simply freeze mid-print, then having you trek to the other side of the school to turn it off and on again.

I was very glad to see the back of them!

God, I remember those things. They were a frigging nightmare. The school I worked at had a bunch of those and some Netgear equivalents and somehow the Netgears were the better choice.

 

It was a massive relief when I finally managed to persuade them to move over to printers with integrated JetDirects.

I'm pretty sure I know that one right away, but I won't spoil the game for others. That plastic moulding made for satisfying stacking, but I don't really understand why the designers thought people would ever have a more than one to begin with!
