Cast/Mirror Teacher's Windows Screen to Pupil iPad

Got a child with sight problems who has a school iPad that has been provided to allow a better view of the class screen. No interactivity is needed or wanted.

 

Has anyone done this and what did you use?

you could use teams. broadcast the desktop.

Any video conferencing software that is already embedded in the school (e.g. Teams, Google Meet). Just screenshare the desktop.

 

One of our pupils had that exact same setup when they were in junior school, they were supplied an iPad and their teacher just screen shared with them.

A consultant we had said he'd had good experience with VNC viewer / server or TeamViewer (view only through TeamViewer QS) but we preferred using google meet which was already being used by staff and students.

I originally set up Teams a couple of years ago, exactly for this purpose. It worked really well.

 

Little did I know how much hassle I was saving myself just a few months later!

Thanks all, apparently Meet (school is mainly Google) isn't working. This was only brought to my attention as I was leaving yesterday and I'm not back there until after 1/2 term to see how true this is. VNC was recommended, but last time I used it it wasn't very user-friendly and apparently might give too much leeway to the "viewer". TeamViewer might be an option - depends on the cost (no longer free to EDU AFAIK).

 

Will get them to try Teams in the interim.

I'd just ask them to hold tight whilst you figure out what the issue with Meet is. No point in bringing new tools for the sake of it.

Or they can pay for the extra time maybe?

I've set up VNC to do just this. Sorry, I don't work in schools any more.. From memory, set up the pc as a vnc server and the ipad as a VNC client.

You may need to check firewall rules etc in your school wifi - there's also a port exception for the PC - do it with group policy. If you have 3rd party AV you'll need to let that know as well

there is a piece of software called Duet Display that will do this for you https://www.duetdisplay.com/. A bit glitchy but it does the job. You will need to pay for it though

VNCs issue is the host may not be aware when the client is dialling in, so they might see confidential documents. They can dial in when a lesson isn't running.

Thanks. I can't imagine they'll spend any money, and I think you're right about usage. Back in the pre-tablet days I remember prepping a laptop in a similar situation that was no longer needed before the term was out.

lanschool have a trial so might be worth taking a look, not sure if they do a limited free version its been a while since i looked into it

Had a very brief look at the iPad, which only accepts address/port as a proxy option. I'm wondering if that may be a factor.

Not sure if anyone else has already suggested this, you can use your iPad as a second screen in windows if you use Lunar Display.

Looks good, but they won't pay that much. I'm gonna have to have a play after 1/2 term.
