Anyone turned on "Supervised chats" in Teams? How's it working for you?

Yes, but currently trying to find out how to deal with the pre-existing chats that MS says remain unsupervised, of which there will be thousands as the school has been using it for over a year.

Have you had any joy with doing this? at the moment MS introducing supervised chats is completely pointless unless your tenant is brand new. Its not like you can login as a troublesome student and delete their existing chats because delete doesn't exist either only hide FML.

I can't even get it working. I've got a couple of test accounts which I'm sure I've set correctly, but everyone can still message everyone.......

We have had it for a month or two now, like previously mentioned, its not really had much impact as there`s hundred of existing chat that the pupils are in and they just add new pupils to those.

It would be great if it worked for existing chats. Cant see it ever happening though!

Nope so basically a pointless feature unless it is a new user account. If it is an old one then the kids can mess around like before.

Our local authority turned the feature on when it was introduced and it works well for new chats but as everyone has pointed out for existing chats it's pretty much useless.

Sorry to revive this thread - has anyone heard anything more/come with an ingenious solution regarding those historical, existing chats? Causing a few issues (again) at the moment!

Almost a year later, just wondering if this is still the case? Really want to turn on supervised chat, but aware that there are thousands of old chats just sitting there waiting to be abused!

 

Seems crazy if there is no way to apply this to all chats, or delete the old chats!

 

Anyone come up with a solution, or have you all just left chat switched off?

We have turned off the ability for them to start new chats, except with staff, so it will phase out over the years. Impero picks up swear words/safeguarding things. Not much else we can do.

You can set up a retention policy to delete chats older than say a month, which will remove the bulk of the problem. Then with agreement with the safeguarding team, you can over a weekend, drop the retention policy to say a day, and that will get rid of most of the remaining active chats. You can then increase the retention period back up to something sensible (a month seems to be popular). To get rid of the rest, you can (probably) then block all access to chat over a school holiday period, reduce the retention period back down to a day, only reverting the policies once school starts again. This will be 98% effective.

 

You can then use various reports/PowerShell queries etc to find highly active chats and if necessary work with the individual participants to get them closed down.

That sounds great. I'll give it a try. I did look at the retention thing before, but I figured it would just delete the messages, and not the "chats" themselves allowing the students to just pick up where they left off. If that is not the case I will give it a try. Thank you.
