Boredguy Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 If the laptops were provided direct to the trust, getting the admin passwords just requires e-mailing the XMA team with the serial numbers. If the laptops were provided via LA's, then they have the passwords already and it's up to them if they provide it, as they are the owners unless otherwise stated (since they got them for specific students) For the MiFi dongles, well come October we might get details from the DfE for passwords etc for future use unless they extend the scheme at that point. Not sure we should be advocating bypassing the passwords on devices that might not be school property (yet)

Are we supposed to let them keep the laptops until the end of Year 11? Or are we supposed to take them back, and have them ready to re-allocate in the event of any students who are required to isolate in the coming months? Or is it entirely the school's choice? What are other schools doing? Thanks in advance

For laptops that were provided directly to us as a MAT, students were told they would have them until at least March 2021 (when the DfE web filtering expired) unless we requested them in sooner to reinstall them. We have no plans to take them from the students that currently have them to give to others if we have another lockdown.

So any info like this is really useful to know, thanks to anyone who can answer this It was our decision, as they are the property of the Trust now, so we can reassign them if the students situation changes (such as them moving to another school, parents purchasing additional home IT etc). We choose the March date as a MAT as it would provide sufficient time for the student to have use of the laptop to catch with any work in the hope there wasn't another lock down, and gave plenty of time to look at how we might want to integrate the devices with the networks and web filtering as we didn't really have that ability back in July when trying to ensure students who needed a device had one.

Following the links, etc it would appear they are getting stuff in place in case of local lockdown - our allocation this time is massive compared to what we were offered before. I think I'm going to pursue Chromebooks this time around as our testing of these so far has been really positive and would be a lot less hassle than the wheezy laptops they've been given out. Pete 1

Pete We got 40 laptops, we would of much rather had Chromebooks. We didn't get a choice.
