Press conference at 4pm. Expected lockdown nationally for the whole of November

 

Probably necessary - Ithink we will be lucky if it doesn't get extended over Christmas

Looks like national lockdown

all non essential shops to close

 

from Wednesday - so basically

 

Everyone down the pub tonight before they close again

 

followed by spike in a week or so

 

followed by extension until January

 

 

maybe not announced it on a Saturday night??????

 

or am I being silly

Wouldn’t you have thought that if it has occurred to such menial beings as ourselves (no disrespect intended at all, @mikeprice), then one of those idiots at the top of the tree might have thought that one through a bit further?

 

no political replies or responses invited or expected, please: as a) it’s bloody cold in the pond at this time of year and b) my thoughts and feelings on our particular set of ‘leaders’ are already well-documented!

Perfect example of how to present information so that is is useless

 

One spreadsheet with NHS trusts on it was truncated so you couldn't see which trust was which

 

and some heat maps that were just jibberish

 

and a lot of charts with no headings and axes with no labels

I wonder how well it is going to work with Schools open. I have no clue how big impact in spreading schools have. We are in fairly low covid infection county (something like 45 per 100k population) - you guys up north, how was it for you? Did you have many kids/adult isolating or being ill?

It's silly advice all around really. We're in the South, one of the lowest areas in the country currently, and all based on PHE advice after 1 teacher has tested positive we now have 150 students who need to isolate, and 9 teachers who were in contact on said day all going off.

 

I get being cautious, and all that, but if that's how PHE are advising really the answer is we shouldn't be open at all...

That doesn't marry up with our many experiences of PHE - all the advice we've had boils down to virtually no one needs to isolate - they'll do their level best to exclude anyone they can from isolation.

PHE guidance seems to not fit that well with places where people are potentially in contact with the same people multiple times throughout the day (so workplaces and schools). It's seems more suited to shops, buses, etc where you might be crossing paths with strangers.

 

'Contact' is defined as being within 2m for 15 minutes or more, or 1m for a minute or more. Nothing about how that might add up over multiple shorter interactions over the course of a day.

So - based on that - and assuming this appears in the law they are sorting out on Wednesday

 

If you can work from home the school must not insist that you come in

 

I would have thought - YMMV - especially if you are a member of SMT in some schools
