asm Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 (edited) I've been asked to find an alternative to our current supplier, mainly for price comparisons etc. Who do you use? I'm based in Essex (just in case the one you happen to use isn't UK wide) Edited January 9, 2020 by asm 1
asm Posted January 9, 2020 Author Posted January 9, 2020 IT equipment / hardware, laptops/desktops/accessories etc.
Jcx500 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Stone for new desktops, ICT Direct for when i need refurb machines and laptops and BT business direct for all other stuff 2
southhamster Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Insight for big things; CPC for small things; Stone laptops and ICT Direct for PCs. 2
PlantHead Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 we've use Probrand Marketplace to get comparison quotes quite a lot The website isn't the friendliest but the prices are often good
mrbios Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Novatech, Scan, Millgate, softcat, ict direct. Those are generally my go to suppliers for everything hardware related, especially when i need 3 quotes. Got account manager for novatech on skype messenger for quick easy quotes, online account with scan so i can just buy stuff from their store when finance are away/during school holidays, millgate are the best at getting me good prices on software and cctv cameras, softcat are our current MSVL provider and tend to be really good at the "bigger things" such as firewall, filtering, backup software replacements etc. Then ICT Direct are there for when i want something cheapy cheap 1
ICTDirect_Dave Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Then ICT Direct are there for when i want something cheapy cheap Who're you callin' cheap?
asm Posted January 9, 2020 Author Posted January 9, 2020 All great suggestions thanks guys! Sent a couple of emails out requesting quotes.
mrbios Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Who're you callin' cheap? Hey it's a good thing! ..... because the government took all our money, so cheap is what we need *Laughs into bucket of tears* 1
Cat_Jam148 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 CBC Computers based up in Sheffield - Great guys who always seem to be considerably cheaper. When they're not , they'll beat nearly all.
Ditto Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Currys . . . actually, only kidding but I know a head (primary) who bought a bunch of APs from them as the were getting rid of stock at discount. That weren't quite as bad as you might imagine, but they were all recently replaced due to reliability and performance issues as WiFi usage increased.
Andycat Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 Who do people use when install/engineer/config is needed?
MartinT Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 Insight for big things and consumables. eBay for parts. We do our own installations but we use DM Systems for consultancy on tricky stuff like AD FS and Azure.
mrbios Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 Who do people use when install/engineer/config is needed? Can you give an example? One example i can think of is a wifi network, normally those quoting will be able to provide configuration as part of the package. If it's networking there's generally quite a lot of consultants that can help you out. Companies selling specific solutions such as cashless catering also tend to do setup themselves as part of the package. So it varies really depending on the particular solution you're looking to be installed and configured.
