Opendium_Steve Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Anyone having issues with Google Sites and Google Calendar today? We've had them exempted on the student filter previously, but they seem to have gone mysteriously missing again. There are a _lot_ of online games hosted on Google Sites, by the way - seems to be a common place for students to host their own copies of things to try and get around filtering.

Yes, but we also use it for ePortfolios of work, internal intranets and subject sites amongst other things, so we have it unblocked. Most of those online games are Flash, so not entirely worried about the hosted online games element, as we don't distribute flash by default and are able to block the plugin element for student accounts in Admin Console.

There are plenty of legitimate resources on Google Sites and if you're a G Suite school it's a very useful part of the offer. 1
andy_b Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Can any one test "Request Log Files" for me please. They seem to not be working correctly again and the diagnostic filter is no longer there.

Request log files is working for me, but you can only search for users that are currently logged in apparently...

It's been intermittent for us since the outage (that wasn't an outage) last week... a couple of refreshes usually gives some functionality however it's hit and miss

Absolutely - I wasn't suggesting that it should be completely blocked, just warning that whitelisting it (i.e. turning off filtering entirely) comes with some risks. @paulkerton is obviously aware of those risks and has considered them when setting filtering policy, so that's great (not everyone is as aware of the risks of whitelisting a whole domain ). 1

Absolutely. We also have a poor filtering system provided by our ISP, so we have hurdles to jump there but you have to weigh up risks and benefits. There's plenty of content that could be considered inappropriate on the BBC for example, but the benefits of the content that exists there outweighs any potential risks of exposure. 1
Mkjarred Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Anyone having issues today? No internet for us for several hours. Been told it’s being investigated
Edu-IT Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 No internet for us for several hours. Been told it’s being investigated Did they give any indication on cause? Usually when it's a big issue it's all over EduGeek but seems to not be the case here?
Mkjarred Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Did they give any indication on cause? Usually when it's a big issue it's all over EduGeek but seems to not be the case here? No, I was just told there was an outage that was being investigated.

SchoolsBroadband Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Hi folks, we had an issue affecting about 25 customers. I don't have any more information than that at the moment but will pass on once I've an update from the NOC team. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. David
