I've had a quick look through the past few months posts but couldn't find anyone who'd posted this question recently.

We're looking to replace our ageing onprem phone system and are looking at both new hardware but also cloud based solutions.

I just wondered if people could provide supplier recommendations and information on what solution they purchased.

3cx again (with Yealink handsets). Our deployment last year went very smoothly. We went with Spitfire for trunks, support and initial config. We did the physical install of the phones, and provided a phone list for them to upload into the system. They were accommodating to our needs, and were able to give useful advice too.

Its something you can do in-house, but as as school we wanted a level of support in case of future issues. Adding additional extensions now is just a mater of plugging the phone into the network, and assigning a name and number on the 3cx web interface.

Not wanting to jump on the bandwagon but, 3CX. We got a local company in to deploy but I think in the end we could have muddled through ourselves and saved money although our final decision was more to do with wanting a known good config as a base. We saved money anyway compared to all the other systems, we had to add more expensive handsets to bulk out the quote as the Bursar thought it was a joke quote. We have some banked support time with the company just in case, but we do everything ourselves really now. Yealink handsets throughout, although we (the IT Department) have moved to bluetooth headsets connected to our PCs now using the on screen App.

We have not hit anything we can not do with it, we have even branched and started using things like queues, which we would never have done on other systems as it would have cost us extra licenses.

We went with a company called OrbTalk for our SIP, making sure our internet line had SIP functionality enabled (I have to confess I have no idea what this technically is but it was free and just needed a change request), only issue we had was when Telehouse had a fire so not really anything anyone could do.

We are considering the possibility of moving on site to Cloud, had a quote from a company called Adept based in Newcastle upon Tyne (be careful there are a few Adepts) that seemed very good. This would allow us to still receive calls if our Internet went down (via mobile or home internet) or if our site was burnt down.

All in all a fantastic experience, we can do whatever we need and want (personally I have really enjoyed selecting and adding hold music and ringtones, having the Tech's phone ring to

always brings a smile to my face) and has allowed us to be more responsive to Phone issues.

Another vote for 3CX

All our current school and college customers use the system. If you would like a free quote for a fully managed service including headsets. Send us a message

We went with Gamma using their Horizon solution with Polycom phones, I wanted to go in house using 3CX but powers that be didn't want any extra admin landing on me. Ironically I do the admin on the Horizon system

I would consider a in-house 3CX system but i'm interested to know how much a support contract with Spitfire costs?

If you are interested as well as 3CX system in support we used a company called Burconix one of the assistant Heads got three companies in quoting different systems complete setup all new equipment Burconix came in with quote for 3CX system for all phones software and help with setup for virtually half the price of the other three so was a no brainer for us.

I'm not sure without looking it up, it was about 6 months ago. It would be best to get a new quote from them directly, as it may vary depending on the size of the system etc.

It was a lot less than what we were paying on our old system though.

FreePBX, Grandstream phones, Gamma via Millgate

The only thing that actually costs money is making calls, (and they cost almost nothing), and a fixed cost for porting numbers, numbers etc are free to providers.

Looked at a few hosted solutions but they wanted per handset fees, half of our phones are internal only.

If the whole thing died I could just take a laptop somewhere with internet, run the VM there, and forward all calls to mobiles. Or just run a sip app on a smartphone in an even more emergency. Whoever registers the sip account gets all the calls, so failover is easy

Total cost £7.50 per simultaneous call per month

We're using 3CX on AWS with Gamma SIP, more than happy with features and cost. We are using Yealink T46 handsets and they are great

Can you tell me which product you went with on AWS, seems like a baffling range. How much do you pay per month for AWS please?

PM if you prefer.
