RAF 100 flypast

Nothing to do with IT - but a throwback to my previous career today watching the 100+ aircraft RAF flypast. Don't mind admitting my hayfever got the better of me on that one!

We went out and watched as both @Domino and I work near Shorditch looked quite nice, shame that its not very blue skies here today

It was brilliant to see so many Typhoons together. Normally we're limited to one doing a display at an airshow.

Was a cracking flypast!

 

I can only Imagine how loud all those Typhoons were!

 

The one BAE send to Southport Air Show each year sounds like a giant ripping the sky in half all by itself!

Had 4 Typhoons over the Humber on Tuesday morning as I was on the way out to work, often get woken by them when on QRA at night as I'm not far from Coningsby.

 

Not one for planes but watching them up there all together is a pretty good site!

Until you have heard a vulcan on a full thrust near vertical take off, you won't know what loud is. Even the original English Electric Lightning on a QRA take off with full reheat was amazingly loud and darned quick.

I'm told the F35's make Tornado's sound like a baby's rattle in comparison, but I agree nothing will ever match the way the Vulcan could make the Earth shake!

Concorde probably came a close second to the Vulcan in terms of ground shake - same engines. When I worked near Birmingham Airport and Concorde came, the entire office would run out for a look.

The Olympus engine was great for that. I remember being near Heathrow when the first Concorde departed after the accident in 2001. I was about 2-3 miles away and the windows were still shaking a bit!

The Vulcan was at Bournemouth air show numerous times and the noise was just incredible when it turned and the engines were straight at you. I think the only time I saw Concorde was once when I was a child. I can't actually find any evidence to this though Hopefully one day we may see them both fly again!

I was lucky enough to be a RAF Brat with postings at Waddington (Vulcans and house shaking) and Tengah (the school was very near the airfield and Lightnings would scream out for attention)

 

Last posting was Lyneham where Hercules were the regular flyovers and Concorde at 7:30 each weekday evening.

I had a very proud mummy moment when the Sentry went over, its my sons regiment, he's not a pilot but without him and the other engineers and ground crew the pilots wouldn't having anything to fly in

I've seen the Vulcan several times before! Incredible aircraft & so so loud!

 

The Typhoon hurt my ears more though I must say!

Cant beat watching a few planes. Im off to Farnborough later this week.
