Yanni or Laurel - Which one are you?

Seeing as though this thing is doing the rounds, which one can you hear? Laurel / Yanni or both?

 

 

I hear both... which sounds like "yaourel"

The voice clip is a very clever technical trick. It plays Yanny and Laurel at the same time at different pitches. Laurel is low pitch, Yanny is high pitch but overpowers Laurel to (mostly) mask it. But if you can't hear the higher pitch voice due to hearing degradation, you only hear the low pitch Laurel.

I hear both and it seems to be completely random as to which one. If I hear Laurel I can't understand how I ever heard Yanny and vice-versa.

Mr gee40 could hear both on his iPad but only Yanny on his iPhone. Son could hear both on his PC speakers and only Yanny on his phone. The quality of the speakers obviously plays a part.

 

My hearing doesn’t work properly anyway - Yanny for me

I loved looking into these when I was younger. I preferred the Shepard-Risset Glissando, which is the same illusion, but it slides through notes instead of steps through them. Wikipedia has a nice example!
