Rob_D Posted May 15, 2019 Posted May 15, 2019 I can't remember the exam, but a few years back (not long after we started using EWP) we were asked about this as one of the exam questions was "design a flyer" or something. No-one seemed overly bothered when we said no, and it's never come up again so I didn't think much about it.

It’s worth putting in an insert image feature which can be disabled as usual by config option. Any new request will be dealt with and added to the list for August/September release.
Cthulhu Posted May 15, 2019 Posted May 15, 2019 It wasn't a serious request. No Idea why it's needed, I was just asked if Exam Write Pad could do it, and if not I'd have to come up with another solution by the 10th Supposedly it's been required every year, however this is the first time anyone has ever said anything about it.

I know I’m good at delivering things but given a task to do during the exam period is a massive ask. I wish exam officers would have the foresight to think of these things before they go into exam season. We could all rest easy then [emoji1][emoji1][emoji1303]
VXR Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 We're currently using version 2127 and I've just downloaded your latest release for testing. Strange thing is the candidate info box isn't appearing on startup again, I reported this issue back in April 2018 on the version before 2127 and you were able to fix it for ver 2127 after I reported it. Can you have a look please? 1 I've used the new config file and made sure it's enabled

ass17 Posted May 20, 2019 Author Posted May 20, 2019 Ok thanks for the config. Few questions, Does the splash screen appear as the first screen? Then what happens after you click on start new exam? Are you running EWP from network or local disk? Windows version?

Are you running EWP from network or local disk? Windows version? Yes splash screen appears, I click start new exam and it starts a new exam but doesn't ask for any candidate info. Running from local disk on Windows 10 1809.

rheibel Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Non urgent feature requests. We will not be changing version mid exams so no rush. Unique backup file names / Duplicate Save: Currently backup file names are just date and time. If everyone’s config file saved this to a network location this could cause duplicate naming issues, can I request backup file names also have the candidate info like the regular save file name. Alternatively preserving a local backup file for schools woried about network stability etc.., could we have an additional autosave to a central Network folder \\10.x.x.x\ExamTexts etc.. so if we hypothetically had a PSU or SSD fail mid exam etc.. we could quickly set the candidate up on another PC and have a central record of exams undertaken. Font size of candidate info screen: Is it possible when setting the ‘DefaultAppMenuFontSize’ this also affected the candidate info screen? Version 2.5.0.0 has no affect.

Backup file names with naming convention like actual file saves, no problem. The ‘DefaultAppMenuFontSize ‘ is only for the main menu bar only and nothing else is effected.
caffrey Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I know we are using an old version but do the newer versions create the backup folder if it doesn't exist ? The version we have crashes if it doesn't - the kids are deleting the folder. Not entirely sure what version we are using

caffrey Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Perfect thanks And thanks again for this, our exam officer loves it
ste78564 Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 i have just gone to print an exam write pad file never had issues before but version 2.5.0 wont let me print unless i enter the centre name which is a greyed out box. i have set the centre name in the config file but doesnt fill the centre nanme on previousely created versions. i cannot print the files out unless i copy and paste the text into a new ewp file which will then pickup the centre name and allow me to print. I dont need the centre name really as previous versions let me print without the centre name in. Attached images hopefully explain issue. Thanks Ste

Thanks Ste How many older files do you have? If they're not encrypted, you could always open them up in Notepad and add the Centre Name in manually. Could even script it, should be easy enough if you're familiar with Powershell. 1

For now just put anything in the config file more than two characters long.
Cthulhu Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Whipped up a little Poweshell script for you if needed. Dump all the files into a folder and replace with the folder path and with your center name (Make sure you don't delete the quotes). Paste code into Powershell ISE and run - #Variables# $source = "" #Folder containing exam files $centreName = "" #Centre Name $fnAppend = "(NEW)" #Append text to filename (Also creates a new folder with name to save files in) $replace = "" #Line from file that you want to replace $replaceWith = "$centreName" #No need to edit #Variables# # DO NOT EDIT # if(!($source.EndsWith(""))){$source = $source + "" } $fileDestination = $source + $fnAppend + "" if(!(Test-Path -LiteralPath $fileDestination)){ New-Item -Path $fileDestination -ItemType Directory } foreach($file in (Get-ChildItem -Path $source -File)){ $a = Get-Content -Path $file.FullName $a = $a -replace $replace,$replaceWith Out-File -FilePath $($fileDestination + $file.BaseName + "(NEW)" + $file.Extension) -InputObject $a -Encoding utf8 -Force } 1
Cthulhu Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 Just noticed the forum removed some characters which would cause the script to not work. I should've used the code tag #Variables# $source = "" #Folder containing exam files $centreName = "" #Centre Name $fnAppend = "(NEW)" #Append text to filename (Also creates a new folder with name to save files in) $replace = "" #Line from file that you want to replace $replaceWith = "$centreName" #No need to edit #Variables# # DO NOT EDIT # if(!($source.EndsWith("\"))){$source = $source + "\" } $fileDestination = $source + $fnAppend + "\" if(!(Test-Path -LiteralPath $fileDestination)){ New-Item -Path $fileDestination -ItemType Directory } foreach($file in (Get-ChildItem -Path $source -File)){ $a = Get-Content -Path $file.FullName $a = $a -replace $replace,$replaceWith Out-File -FilePath $($fileDestination + $file.BaseName + "(NEW)" + $file.Extension) -InputObject $a -Encoding utf8 -Force }
SteveB_NI Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 Just wanted to firstly thank @ass17 for this wonderful bit of software... it's really been so helpful this current exam season so far! One user noted the following to me yesterday - when he uses the directional keys up, left and right move ok, however the down directional key doesn't have any affect. Is this resolved with the latest release? We are using a release from 2 or 3 weeks ago at present!
Cthulhu Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 (edited) Just had an error during an exam. The information at the bottom of the screen dissappeared and replaced with a red box. The computer still had connection to the network and was still saving. The information appeared again after closing the application down and re-opening. One thing to note, the student pressed cancel when first prompted to save. Might be related to that? I've uploaded a screenshot of the issue. Edited May 22, 2019 by Cthulhu
Lee_West Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 (edited) I have to say this software is amazing and has made our lives so much easier. The only time we're experiencing an issue is with accounts using the spell checker. I only have the student's explanation, so I'm making a bit of an assumption, but when they right click on a word to alter the spelling Write Pad will "crash". The top menu bar is still fully functional, but the main document becomes inaccessible. If you type anything on the keyboard, save and re-open, what you typed is there. It feels like either the right click menu hasn't loaded or has crashed after a word has been changed. We've also had a couple that have just closed down at random. As in the program has just closed. Again, only seems to be with the spellchecker. We're running off a network drive, but had no other issues so far. We've been telling students to use the spell check button and haven't had any issues with that. Edited May 22, 2019 by Lee_West

Also running off the network. Using latest version of EWP.
