ass17 Posted July 21, 2019 Author Posted July 21, 2019 Ok folks, BIG UPDATE NEWS!! I’ve been beavering away solid for the last month and I’m pleased to say that if all goes well, I’m releasing EWP3 on September 1st. But before I can do that I need some beta testers to put themselves forward to have a play with it, try and break it, provide as much feedback as you can. If you want to beta test then drop me an email to [email protected] with subject beta or beta test, so I can filter them easily. Any suggestions or bugs please email them as well. Do not post them here as this thread is massive as it is :-) Thanks
Cthulhu Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 When will the beta tests be taking place? I can have a play with it at work, however will be leaving in a few weeks so don't have much time.
ass17 Posted July 21, 2019 Author Posted July 21, 2019 From tomorrow onwards, just drop me an email [emoji1303]

Popular Post ass17 Posted August 30, 2019 Author Popular Post Posted August 30, 2019 Breaking News!! EWP 3 will be released in September. The finishing touches have all but finished, beta testing complete. Just the config editor to finish off then release is imminent. I’m hoping you will enjoy it as much as I have had designing/building it. 6
ass17 Posted September 8, 2019 Author Posted September 8, 2019 Quick update: Release date confirmed as 16th September. Those using 2.2 or higher should be able to use the built in cure I got updates to get it, otherwise you can go to https://www.sheldnet.co.uk/examwritepad/ 2
Popular Post ass17 Posted September 16, 2019 Author Popular Post Posted September 16, 2019 Hi All, Thanks for the ccontinued support over the last two years, its been a real pleasure to deliver something that was only ever supposed to be a one off. Well I'm pleased to announce the release of EWP v3 as of today and what a massive update it is..... First important point is: (I had no choice as there was a bug in 4.7 that caused limited users to have GUI issues) Prerequisites: .net Framework 4.8 - https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/thank-you/net48-offline and v2 configs will not work with v3, so please migrate your custom settings to the new options in the sample config So whats new? What’s new, changed, removed from previous versions: ( Quite a lot 😊 ) EWP in now x64 only, 32bit has been dropped due to associated libraries now used. · Complete style redesign · New Menu bar in a Ribbon style · AutoSave Timer running a separate background thread from main UI thread · AutoBackup Timer running a separate background thread from main UI thread · Date/Time Clock now runs in a separate background thread from main UI thread · Battery Power Status now runs in a separate background thread from main UI thread · Command Line redesign to allow coversheet, number of copies and batch printing · Restore previous version from splash screen · View documentation from splash screen · Ability to disable most buttons on the ribbon bar to customise what is available to the end user · Candidate Information window has been condensed to make it less confusing · A popup ‘Quick Formatting’ bar like in Microsoft Word · New button: Uppercase · New Button: Lowercase · New button: Page Rotation (Landscape/Portrait) · New Button: Remove Formatting · New Button: Tables · New Button: Date & Time · New Button: List - Bullets · New Button: List – Numbers · New Button: Line Numbers (GDI+ drawn so use sparingly because of performance issues, use as a reference point and turn off when not required) · New Button: Ruler (to control margins and alignment of objects/text) · New Button: Word Count (Pages, Paragraphs, Lines, Words, Characters with/without spaces) · New Button: Page width/Zoom controls · New Button: Full Screen Mode · Application now runs in a standard resizable window as default · Find & Replace - New · Spelling Control - New · Information to tell you when the last autobackup/autosave was completed · Toggle the ribbon visibility · Context Menu: Formatting of tables, images and paragraphs · More shortcut keys available · Custom Printing Function · New right-click context menu: Undo, Redo, Select All, Cut, Copy, Paste, Format Image, Table Properties, Paragraph Formatting, List Formatting, Text Highlighting and Insert Symbol. · More features for 37% less lines (EWP2 was 10,000 EWP3 now 6,287 at time of release) · More customisable (enable/disable) objects with EWP to suit your needs This is not the full list but the main things you needs to know. How do I get it? via: https://sheldnet.co.uk/examwritepad and click on 'download' at the top. or for those with v2.2 or higher use the check for updates.. What if I find an Issue? You can now report bugs and issues via: https://sheldnet.co.uk/examwritepad and click on 'Bug Tracker' at the top. You can continue to post them here @ edugeek but it will be better for me to keep them all in one place. Hope you enjoy!! 9
msi_school Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 I am getting a bad gate way when I try to download version 3
ass17 Posted September 16, 2019 Author Posted September 16, 2019 I am getting a bad gate way when I try to download version 3 will check it out now
ass17 Posted September 16, 2019 Author Posted September 16, 2019 The main reason for changing the look and feel was down to the fact that the exam boards do state in their guidence that it should be 'the normal way of working', so based on this, I've replicated it as best I can to what Microsoft Word looks like so it fullfills the exam boards requirements. I will say it now before someone asks.. :-) 1

This has been our excuse when a certain department want to give all their kids laptops and screen readers because they think it'll magically get them better marks So the closer it is, the better.
BlueScreen Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 Thanks for this. I'll be showing this to our exams officer on Monday to get their approval. A couple of points I've noticed. Setting the Default paths in the config with %HomeDrive%\Documents doesn't seem to expand the %HomeDrive%, it creates a new folder in the start in location (using a shortcut with a start in location of %HomeDrive%%HomePath%) with the folder name '%HomeDrive%'. Also does ctrl + left or right arrow work to jump to the beginning of the previous / next word? Thanks again for this.

Thanks for reporting these issues, I have placed them in the bug tracker on the EWP website. I will go ahead and fix them asap, so that I can release a new build of EWP in the first week of October.
robyholmes Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Hi Mate, I'm trying to log a bug on your website but your site seems to think I'm a spam bot. As far as I know I'm not. I mean, what a way to find out... Cheers, Rob 1

ass17 Posted October 1, 2019 Author Posted October 1, 2019 Hi All, Is anyone using EWP on an RM network successfully? I have on school that is struggling to run it on there network even with full domain admin access. Did you have to do anything special to get it to run, please share your knowledge[emoji1] Thanks

k9mjl Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 .Net 4.8 installed and logged in as administrator, EWP will not launch. Using v3 Back in the IT office, we can launch it.
ass17 Posted October 1, 2019 Author Posted October 1, 2019 (edited) .Net 4.8 installed and logged in as administrator, EWP will not launch. Using v3 Back in the IT office, we can launch it. Do you have AppLocker policies on your network? If so make sure you have allowed EWP to run. Especially if you apply the hashing rule, thus you would need to re-hash the exe file. What we do here is allow all execution from a specified folder, saves in hazing all the time etc.... it just works Edited October 1, 2019 by ass17
ass17 Posted October 1, 2019 Author Posted October 1, 2019 Do you have AppLocker policies on your network? If so make sure you have allowed EWP to run. We run it fine on a heavily restricted pupil user account for exams and never had an issue.
ass17 Posted October 1, 2019 Author Posted October 1, 2019 If the issue is something else completely different then please run ProccessMon to see what is thrown up that might be stopping EWP from loading. Also what might be interesting to know is if you download the older 2.6 version from the website, does that still run? If so then, the .Net4.8 is not the issue. Look closer to GPO restrictions for the answer.
k9mjl Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Its not app locker - don't use it. previous version was fine. .Net 3.5 and 4.8 installed. launched on the server prompts for 4.72? Never had a problem before.
