I thought it already had a user readable config file. Went to try to download it again to see, and it didn't come up on Google search really. First link was one of these edugeek threads, which means it's impossible to find the right download, 3rd link was https://examwordpad.wordpress.com which seems out of date. Need to put a link on that site to your current site.

I agree. Could we perhaps get a mod to put a link to the latest version in post #1 of the thread that appears at the top of the Google search results for ExamWritePad? i.e.

Would it be better that the Spelling is off by default when first downloaded. The vast majority of exam officers are not even aware that there is spell check is on by dedfault in the lastest veersion and are likely to fall foul of the rules. The earlier versions were exams ready so they could just be used as it is with minor changes but having spell check on by default is not ideal.

All older Wordpress sites have been taken down and I have now setup https://sheldnet.co.uk/examwritepad as a new google search console URL, hopefully in a few days it should have indexed the site and updated its results.

@ass17 - +1 vote for AD query!

 

Readable file means I would have to write a function to read against how the content of the file is structured and obtain values. Querying AD is easier to do.

 

It would be my preference to query AD and keep all the options in the main config file.

 

If there were more options to add to Spell check that were required then I would look at a separate user based config, this would need to be managed more so... it’s a tough one to call but I’m happy to think about all options that people can think off and myself.

 

After all, I wish to provide you with the best possible software to fit everyone’s needs. I’ve even in talks with some American schools and luckily for them the only changes needed would be to the candidate details form, cover sheets and paper size. #GlobalDomination [emoji1][emoji1303]

We now want to use the new version. In the config editor (using GUI), it doesn't allow me to enter 2 centre numbers. The description says you can use semi colons to add multiple centre numbers but it doesn't seem to be working.

We'll need to be able to add multiple exam centre names with the multiple exam centre numbers.

 

Another edit: Is there a way to not force the print out to be in the "PrintFontColour"? Can you turn it off so it will print how it is typed?

 

The character/accent map screen says to press f9 to launch windows character map but f9 seems to insert a page break (might just be my keyboard?).

 

Is there a way to have more control over the extra time clock? I just think that if there is an issue during an exam, you might need to stop the extra time clock or add on more time?

Exam boards don’t specific text to be in other colours for clarity, but if this is something you wish to use, I will make the option PrintFontColour if left blank, use colours in document window.

 

With regards extra time clock, it’s just a basic countdown, but I can add in a pause button but the nature of this feature is that it is available to the user to abuse if I start adding in ways to add extra time onto of extra time. I will add in a pause/resume button but will only be visible after the start of the timer.

What you've done and and what your doing is brilliant. Keep it up, but KISS ! Don't over complicate it!

 

Been using in anger this week for our pre-app exams (mocks) for the every increasing number of kids that require to use a word pad and so far, so good and feed back is excellent. I'm doing a training session for TAs and Invigilators next week to just go over the basics with staff so they are comfortable using it. I may get some other ideas for you to put in your mixing pot!

 

The only observation I see is it doesn't snap to 50% of the screen. We have students using PDF versions of the exam paper who use the Read Aloud feature, and I can't seem to get it to use half and half of the screen to show ExamWritePad on one side and Adobe Reader on the other. If that makes sense.

That's great. This software helps so much for our exams.

 

We ask students to change font colour when they're in extra time during their mocks. This needs to be visible by our SENCO so we rely on the print out to show the extra time changes.

 

Also, is it possible to add multiple exam centre names just like the exam centre numbers. Or maybe link an exam centre number to a name so they're auto automatically filled in?

Ok from my testing, PrintFontColour config option doesn’t apply and never has done in v3. Which means those that used coloured text should have printed colour. I will reinstate it so that a colour entered in the config will apply and a blank config entry won’t apply.

For some subjects we've had to set up an exam whereby the pupils complete 2 papers during their allocated time, and they can spend as much time on each paper as they see fit. The problem we have is our Writepad configuration is set to full screen with a password on exit (for security reasons and to stop any possible cheating) so pupils are unable to start a new exam or create another header sheet for the 2nd paper. I just wondered if anyone else has the same issue and whether anything can be done in Exam Writepad to resolve?

Sorry, no, EWP is a one document, single instance application.

 

Im hoping in a future to allow multiple instances or multi-tabbed document windows.

Not at the moment no, The ribbon bar is custom design and built by me, so everything control is in a fixed place. If I was to use a Ribbon control, thrid party then I could have hidden it but there were no good free ones out there.

 

Im looking into hidding buttons for future versions but it either means hide and leave a blank space or dynamically shift all controls on the right of a hidden button, left.

 

I made the initial decision not to hide the button because if you hide a series of button controlds you might end up with an ugly looking ribbon bar with bits missing here and there.
