Impero vs Senso vs NetSupport vs Others?
rheibel replied to ashleylewisms92's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Not so far for any hard wired device. Are these wireless devices? We maily have lenovo laptops for student use but there is one batch of ASUS powerbooks that seem to drop wifi about 1 per hour for 20 seconds. some sort of driver issue but have not had time investigate yet. -
Qwite a few models over recent years, anything after 2017 should use there new interface but I have not used the new Google education interactive screens (Google EDLA certified) so cant say if they use a difrent interface. Unfortunatly I have just relised my it tech has only recorded them as iiyama iteractive screen in our asset database so will update this post once they have recorded the model numbers. We just installed another 'TE 12-B3 series' 65" that has the same remote optional interface replacing a ctouch brand that failed. We have also used some cheep large button programable remotes works fine aslong as you have atleast one working remote to program it from. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Geemarc-Universal-programmable-Requires-Original-Black/dp/B077BR15TH?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.32FrKNSOiiKv87XtR9u4bICIg3Dz5tKvjeUh0ckGL66KcNHaFXECry4Xu0nu-FuYlZB0Ek28HB3CmfhpkLpv3RYTPEA_4FUeR3S-KdzdoFEHTLn_B8uzHz2lwA9uShJL7dHv8ClrIFxw1nGDmVrDyDS9KeXc5z6t3AoRavuUfksdyRiSNQXGJfL0jfHvVviTCZb9231rtpO4Q0LCaPbAty8yCf7-2ubsag747Y1nS_k.MY8Z4uyObu4SImWhC8DMPGhVLF27Bg5oabBvjN6mIro&dib_tag=se&keywords=programmable%2Bremote%2Bcontrol&qid=1741773329&sr=8-7&th=1

Use the local Impero, most of the time its fine but has just enouth issues to be annoying. Cloud hosted is much more expensive and cant do WOL as networrk packet cant cross subnets. you would need a local server to send the packet(proxy) as its 'Layer 2'. -
Got a Prusa MK2 long ago, since then have upgraded it to a MK3 Multi material and got the new XL. School has also replaced there makerbot with prusa MK4 and a Prusa mini. basicly they are very reliable workhorses and as the software is free its simple to deploy to all the computers we want to. other consideration is they are EU made and regulated as a company so its simple to ensure complaiance with regulations. much harder with random cheap chinese printers. Bambolabs also make a good product and if we had not had a prusa may have been the one we went for as a department.

iiyama has become our standard. whist overs have it the fact you dont need the remote that staff love to lose is great. all functions can be acessed from the touchscreen itself e.g freeze, volume, input etc...

Hoping this is a badly worded blog post but do others read this as all school students will need MFA mobile app or FIDO2 usb? If anyone has a decent contact at Microsoft can they reach out and see if I need to be ordering mass FIDO2 keys for September? https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/core-infrastructure-and-security/microsoft-will-require-mfa-for-all-azure-users/bc-p/4141341

[ms office - o365] Office keeps asking to sign in
rheibel replied to newpersn's topic in Office Software
here is the link to the updated page to monitor for changes. tipicly the rss feed has helpfull details like "2 urls updated" you then just have to work out which one e.g notepadd++ and compare the list with last one you setup. note some of the *. e.g *.portal.cloudappsecurity.com can be replaces with ones with your tennant ID included in the URL but you need to work out which ones depends how locked down your policies for firewalls are. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/enterprise/urls-and-ip-address-ranges?view=o365-worldwide this azure page has others if you have moved some servers to the azure cloud personaly not needed these yet https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/app-service/environment/firewall-integration#fqdn-httphttps-dependencies -
Split up and limit acess. idealy just use the onedrive website and stay online all department folders teams sites etc.. a user has acess to are auto shown below there personal onedrive. As everyone is pointing out the way sync works is via behind the scenes notifications not to bad if you have a decent internet conection/ fast firewall and decent laptops but honestly a busy masive singular shared document library will case trafic when staff first log in. also recomend the traditional start menu shortcuts pointing to webpages keeps the older staff happy even if everyone else uses the school homepage.

Plagiarism Checker with AI Checker - Microsoft Teams
rheibel replied to NathanH99's topic in Educational Software
not been asked to impliment it yet but turnitin seems to be the UK prefered Plagiarism/AI checker service https://www.turnitin.co.uk/solutions/topics/ai-writing/ i do beleve microsoft have some tools in the works but never seen a date yet for when they will be ready. turn it in were offering a discount so may be worth a email to see on pricing as it is very easy to intergrate with teams assignments etc.. -
[ms office - o365] Office keeps asking to sign in
rheibel replied to newpersn's topic in Office Software
do you have the latest changes to the microsft URL 'whitelist' for your firewall inplace and recently i have seen our sonicwall firewall block MS edge SSO as it sees the trafic as a match for a socilmedia app. About 1 in every 200 logins seem to get affected so far not always the same app is matched so presume microsoft are using some new obscureing code not a traditional HTTPS URL for login specificly seem to affect Edge which ofcause Office uses for the login. If its the same the same users who get asked in a loop to sign into office will also see the profile selection screen when opening edge. -
Davinci Resolve has face/point tracking doubt sending the unredacted footage to a 3rd party would fly well with our DPO. softwere is free but dose have a steep learning curve but its what i use reguly. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve Depending on your orgs interpritation and what the request is, we have done the reverse track the singular face, adjust size to what you want then blur the rest of the image e.g only the requestee of the data subject request face is unblurd. a quick follopwup pass if another face gets into the unblured region.

Mock Exam time again. I was hoping to use endpoint.microsoft.com to setup a few laptops in autosign in multi app kiosk mode but cant find the AUMID for examWritepad for the installed MSI v4.1.9.0 dose the msi not register as a app in the start menu? unfortunatly the windows cloud kiosk mode needs this AUMID number to compleate the form even though we also specifi the .exe location.

https://www.advancedinstaller.com/free-license.html Advanced installer still offer free licences you just have to email and explain why you deserve one . May I request MSIX in addition to MSI to cover SCCM/intune/Store cloud deployment if you go down the msi route. If you want I may get time to put together a example MSI over the weekend to PM you, but for deployment you would want a proper certificate signed package to host on your website. ExamWritePad should be simple it is the VC and .net installers that would be trickier to include in the msi. but if you offer a msi it should include everything so it just works for the user.
-
I have used https://www.advancedinstaller.com/ for this in the past but they have removed the free licence but if you can find a older version of the installer it would work i use 15.3. I have not used it for ExamWritePad but For making MSI font packages but it is perfectly capable of making a msi to copy files and folders. The free licence prevents distribution unless ExamWritePad is open source.

I can now feedback that yesterday and this morning’s exams have printed with a 100% success rate just as they used to. 2.5.0.0 using Default local save location for backups and top most priority disabled. Thanks for the foresight to include a log file made it much simpler to work out the printing issue was linked to the backup file. P.S Looking forward to EWP 3 and 4 sound s like you have some big plans for EWP

Further testing of printing issues from post #1122. Edit in #1122 I said the permissions for the local backup had Everyone > read this I s wrong it was the Users > read so all local users of that PC have Read access. Storing the backup file in the default location and printing is fine as soon as I change the backup location to a network drive e.g \\10.x.x.x\ExamWritePad I get issues but not always???? (~75% error rate). Always the same OpenXML error. Even when everyone has write access to that network location I still got one openXML error out of ten prints but need to test more as had several USB config file versions. Main goal was to find something for the rest of the exams that worked reliably which is leave the backups locally. All testing done with 2.5.0.0 as this had been working fine for me till I started trying to store exam documents and backups in UNC paths. Storing the original exam document where I used to in the mapped home drive (H:\) of the exam user does not cause issue. I will test later today if a mapped Z:\ works for the backup file rather than UNC \\10.x.x.x\ I still have left top most priority disabled as it can take 5 seconds or more for printer selection to show and as I’m not in the exam room I don’t know what happens if/when students multiple click around the screen whilst waiting for printer selection to show.

For those who are having difficulty printing with symptoms such as: printer selection is behind ExamWritePad or Coversheet prints fine then printing the candidates exam work the program freezes. check the event log under the users profile > appdata >local > Temp. I found the log had an access denied XML error such as the one bellow on each Candidate PC affected by printing issues today. I did not get a proper chance to test before I finished for the day, but looks like a permissions issue on the network share where the backup files are stored. If stored locally in the default location then no issue printing. I gave everyone full Control on the network share on 2 test PC’s after today's exam and had no issue printing. The backup file has the following permissions when created locally: SYSTEM > Full Control User > Full Control Administrators > Full Control Everyone > read My network share had: Creator Owner > Full Control Administrators > Full Control There is no System or Everyone permission. What user account is used for printing? I relay need to test this further tomorrow but simple solution is store both work and backups locally not on the network. Odd thing is this dose not happen every-time so killing examWritePad and opening again works about 50% of the time as dose logging the user in to another PC , with no changes to the permissions. There are no issues saving either to the users %homedrive% or the network backup location during the exam only access denied error is when printing. 04/06/2019 15:53:31: OpenXML - System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\10.x.x.x\Examwork\ExamWritePad\04-06-2019-15-53-31.ExamTextBackup' is denied. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttrs, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy, Boolean useLongPath, Boolean checkHost) at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize) at System.Xml.XmlDownloadManager.GetStream(Uri uri, ICredentials credentials, IWebProxy proxy, RequestCachePolicy cachePolicy) at System.Xml.XmlUrlResolver.GetEntity(Uri absoluteUri, String role, Type ofObjectToReturn) at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.OpenUrlDelegate(Object xmlResolver) at System.Runtime.CompilerServices.RuntimeHelpers.ExecuteCodeWithGuaranteedCleanup(TryCode code, CleanupCode backoutCode, Object userData) at System.Threading.CompressedStack.Run(CompressedStack compressedStack, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.OpenUrl() at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Read() at System.Xml.XmlLoader.Load(XmlDocument doc, XmlReader reader, Boolean preserveWhitespace) at System.Xml.XmlDocument.Load(XmlReader reader) at System.Xml.XmlDocument.Load(String filename) at ExamWritePad.RichTextEditor.Form2.OpenXML(String FilePath)

Many thanks for the quick addition.

Non urgent feature requests. We will not be changing version mid exams so no rush. Unique backup file names / Duplicate Save: Currently backup file names are just date and time. If everyone’s config file saved this to a network location this could cause duplicate naming issues, can I request backup file names also have the candidate info like the regular save file name. Alternatively preserving a local backup file for schools woried about network stability etc.., could we have an additional autosave to a central Network folder \\10.x.x.x\ExamTexts etc.. so if we hypothetically had a PSU or SSD fail mid exam etc.. we could quickly set the candidate up on another PC and have a central record of exams undertaken. Font size of candidate info screen: Is it possible when setting the ‘DefaultAppMenuFontSize’ this also affected the candidate info screen? Version 2.5.0.0 has no affect.

yes DisableSplitScreenAllSizes was not in the sample ExamWritePad.exe.config for 2.3.9.0 https://drive.google.com/open?id=10lELm7C9W5Z1DPViXXWzwg1rYWX4iWQT not the end of the world, as i knew it could be turned off, but wanted it documented in case anyone else setting up exam laptops for the mocks on the 27th was wondering where the option to disable split screen had gone.
-
As always, looking good and thanks for all the work put in to this, but had to manual edit the xml to add back the option to

DisableSplitScreenAllSizes

Version 2.3.9.0

Just to say Thankyou again. I had chance to try and the import now works fine. who would have thought P1 and P 1 would make all the difference. Now my final issue is the SIMS report shows awed:1 not 1wed:1 as we work on week A and B but, find and replace works well enough for now.
-
Did not think to try P 1 rather than P1. or Day 6-10. Will report back once I have a chance to try it out (Tuesday).

Does the Booking System plug-in support a 2 week timetable? I don't know if its the Azure AD/SSO or something else but have been unable to import the SIMS booking system report in 10.6 (never tried in the older versions of HAP). Planed to use the StaticBookings.xml but it does not appear to support a 2 week timetable. I don't want to have to enter everything in Bookings.xml calculating the date of each lesson. If anyone has this working would you mind sharing your StaticBookings.xml layout mine curently is attached If its not possible does anyone recommend a alternative to roombookingsytem.co.uk witch we currently use (been told to cut the cost) for a 2 week timetable that will do rooms and equipment bookings?StaticBookingsXML.txt
