mavhc Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Who knew that closed source software was a bad idea, I'm shocked
Ditto Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Asset Tiger - completely free, no catch, no restrictions, loads of functionality https://www.myassettag.com/assettiger/ From page 1 of the thread - Ah the joys of hindsight - - - Updated - - - From page 1 of the thread - Ah the joys of hindsight Just heard back from my previous schools contact - Yep, they've had the email.
Sylv3r Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I've had a backdated invoice and a new invoice for the next 12 months. I am happy to pay from this point forward but nothing previous.
KoolTech Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 I have also suddenly had an invoice from AssetTiger. I thought it said free forever! Shame they have started trying to charge. I will be closing the account and looking for something else....
DrCheese Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Moving ours to SnipeIT - We used to have School Asset Manager but it was never developed and felt like a part time project. Started doing a lot of work with GLPI but ultimately have gone to Snipe IT - It just works (& is free!) 2

Our site staff record PAT results via their phones currently and it's significantly improved the workflow.
davecres Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Ive started to use Cloud based asset company Every Education. https://www.weareevery.com/ Simple to setup, modify out of the box categories and items. You can import from a downloaded spreadsheet based your your own configuration you have built online and they have an app. as we are only just populating the database after configuring and removing categories or items we wont be recording its early days. However so far no hitches and its pretty slick.
Accura2k7 Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Been using PS Asset (SchoolAssetManager) for years, never looked back, really good support as well!
KarlGoddard Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 I've had a backdated invoice and a new invoice for the next 12 months. I am happy to pay from this point forward but nothing previous. Same here... I emailed them and asked why, after stating they provided a free, no restrictions service, that I've suddenly received a back-dated bill. Apparently they've advertised their subscriptions since Sept 2018 (even though I signed up in November) and they've credited my account until Nov 2019. As I said to my colleagues - $200 p.a. is chump change for something as good as Asset Tiger as it is pretty damn good (we're ditching Parago this year). It's more a principle, that they've been less than transparent. 1
CHSGM Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Did the exact same. Backdated the last invoice and per-school the cost is no more than around £50 for the year. Peanuts.
liamrobbo Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Has anyone set up Snipe-IT internal on a local server? or are you using your webserver? It looks great and what i need just a shame there's no smartphone app integration, i had just started populating asset tiger but we want to have all IT and furniture etc in one system so would take us to the $350 a year. Worth it IMO but the finance were sold on it being free
mavhc Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 A great smartphone app really makes asset management work, has to be super easy to update the database as things are moved between rooms. Really what you want is to print your QR codes to contain an entire url: http://assets/idnumber then the app can register that namespace and automatically open at the right page, (SSO via LDAP), and then click Move, and scan the room number printed as a QR code on the door itself Snipe IT does have an API, so someone could write an App, but no one has yet. Other option is to add a JS QR reader to the site and make it work well as a PWA
mrssevage Posted February 16, 2021 Author Posted February 16, 2021 This is what I'm migrating too. Works great Hi, How are you getting on with it? I am now in different school and came across it. Thanks
markwilfan Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 Hi, How are you getting on with it? I am now in different school and came across it. ThanksYeh it's pretty good tbh. Wish it was integrated into our Helpdesk. But better than a spreadsheet 1
FN-GM Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 Yeh it's pretty good tbh. Wish it was integrated into our Helpdesk. But better than a spreadsheet I wish it had a way to mass check-in assets. We are rolling out new equipment and we have heaps to check back into the system. It would be good if you can scan the code and it does it for you. However you have to go into each record.

FN-GM Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 It's annoying that you can bulk checkout but not checkin And I think you're more likely to bulk check-in. Can't think of any circumstance when I have allocated users a lot of equipment in one go.
mrssevage Posted February 17, 2021 Author Posted February 17, 2021 Yeh it's pretty good tbh. Wish it was integrated into our Helpdesk. But better than a spreadsheet Are you using free basic version? Can more than one person access it?
mdrabble Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 For those who are using Parago - what kind of Barcode labels are you using? Do you print your own or purchase preprinted ones? If you print your own, what printer do you use? Cheers/

hallb15 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 We use Parago. I use a brother QL-570 label printer. I made a template and linked it to an excel spreadsheet using the supplied Brother P-Touch software. Its not the most streamlined solution, but its much cheaper than buying labels from Parago. 1

the_quick Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 We use pre-printed labels. As I don't pay for it from my own budget, don't really care and don't have to worry about it.

If you print your own, what printer do you use? Cheers/Is this for devices that don't have a manufacturer's barcode of any kind? I notice on their website, it mentions that it had auto-discover for a large range of devices and claims even to be able to find out what software version they've running automatically. The last system I used, as a default I just used whatever barcode was on the device and gave it a name according my naming convention. I then used sticky labels to add a human readable name on each device. When they inevitably came off, I could just scan the manufacturer's barcode and print off a new sticky label. I found that almost any type of label I used eventually peeled off or became illegible.
