I've set Chrome as the default browser which (still, just about, for the moment) has Flash built in. If you're on Windows 8 or later, the same is true of Internet Explorer, so no, it's not part of my build, but it is still installed. This approach means no more updates for me.

Yes, no choice really in primaries (pretty much everything they use is flash based, it really doesn't help when even sites like BBC history are still in flash!), but I'd really rather not!

One of those things I really can't get rid of yet sadly.

Despite Chrome being installed on all PCs, me recommending staff use it and every default being set to it, a lot still use IE.

This, plus some of the ancient software in use needs it. :(

I had to reinstall it after Chrome started throwing a wobbly about Flash content :(

Moving to Win 10 over the next year or so hopefully I'll be able to wave goodbye!

Another reason I'd like to bin Flash: Having to answer 50 questions (and wait weeks to be "approved") when applying for the ridiculous "distribution license" just so you can get the MSI (which I've just had to again, as my e-mail address changed since I last logged in).

It wouldn't matter so much if it wasn't a buggy [expletive] and full of security holes, but with them patching zero-day exploits on a near weekly basis you'd think they'd prioritise making it easy for network admins to get the damn file we need to update it! [/rant]

As much as I despise Flash too, I haven't had any issues when applying for the distribution license. Typically gets back to me within a couple minutes. I had to hunt down my account details a few weeks ago after I learned Chrome wasn't including Flash anymore in the installable binary. Chrome will attempt to download it itself on a first use basis and it was creating issues with my setup here. Deploying the PPAPI version of Flash I downloaded from their distribution page fixed the issue.

I'm more giddy about the fact that the need for JRE is finally going away.

Does the latest Chrome still run flash or for some sites only or not at all? And can you enable it via GPO?

As for standalone flash, why not just download the EXE version and use switches for a silent install instead?

Still running flash like others have said quite a few resources still need it and these are unlikely to be ported to other methods of play back etc :(

found the ESR releases to be pretty good where they have been tested

@Duke5A can you elaborate on or point me to a resource about chrome not including flash anymore. I get the chrome enterprise msi from PDQ.

I've been troubleshooting a site this week where videos will not play, if I disable flash it kicks back to html5. However I've got inconsistent results and the more info the better.

Checking the flash version it seams to be the latest.

Yer, same as most of the above really. I try and get people to use Chrome but, for the people who choose to totally ignore the advice of their IT expert (Me!), I still sign up with Adobe and get the MSI for it and deploy that around the network.

Probably showing my ignorance, but does deploying the exe automatically remove old versions?

Possibly just making an excuse for not learning how to deploy exes properly, but GPO to deploy an MSI seems much easier.

Agreed, but that's still a bit aspirational. I'm even more annoyed by Oracle working harder and harder to stop us being able to get hold of an MSI (the old way to extract it from the exe doesn't seem to work anymore). To charge for support when the only reason you really need it is because their product is so poor is taking the Michael.

Adobe is a shining beacon of excellence in comparison.

Everyone uses chrome (minus the librarian because eclipse...) it's set as the default and has flash by default.

I don't deploy the activex for IE, haven't for a good 2 years now.

This put me in a tight spot after deploying the latest Chrome a little while ago. A number of sites refused to since Chrome was failing to auto download Flash on its own from Google. I went round and round with checking plugin version in Chrome and details are a bit fuzzy now, but the end solution was to deploy the Adobe PPAPI version of Flash. I dished it out via WSUS using Local Update Publisher, but I got to imagine using GPO would work just as well. From this point forward I've just resigned to the fact I have yet another software package I had to update and deploy on a regular basis now.

We're stuck with it on our Win7 machines as exams software requires it.

Could prove interesting if we go to Win10 and they're still using the same e-volve platform as they're very particular about which Flash version is supported.

Yes I'm told Win 10 is supported. But they need to move away from flash player. They also need to stop being picky about versions. It updates every month, so you have to stagger updates to exam PCs.

Yup it's madness, especially now all the Security updates are rolled into one
