Hi Guys - Its been a while since i visited!! So, I'm getting so fed up with Server 2016 being so rubbish with Windows Updates that I was looking at maybe doing a few in-place upgrades to 2019 (yes, this is supported!) I've done a couple of minor servers so far and its gone well without any issues. However, I've got a Server 2016 server running SQL 2016 now that I would love to upgrade but, obviously with SQL involved, I'm a little nervous. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of doing this and if there are any issues? Its a VMWare server so if nothing else, I'll just snapshot it and roll back if needed but I thought I'd ask the question! Thanks!

Does the port into which the non-working phone is plugged, work? Ie, is there a connection between the wall socket and the patch panel?

Yer, these days I doubt it would power-up at all without a CPU. Back in "the old days" you would have probably found that the power supply would have run as they were "stupid" but they tend to have some intelligence in them these days! it does beg the question "Why"?

I used to use these guys. Not the greatest to deal with but always used to fix the issue. I used to drop off at their offices and pick up again to avoid delivery costs as I live fairly nearby!

DFS Kill it with Fire! I hate DFS with a passion. I've used it windows Svr2003 and it's still just as bad as it was then! My advice - get rid of it!

Firstly, many apologies if this has been covered here already - I tried searching but didn't find much It's the simple questions that keep me awake at night! Why is it that Windows updates on Server 2012 were easy, quick and efficient whereas, on Server 2016, even small updates seem to take hours to install? The new style Updates interface is rubbish and the whole experience is aweful! There are literally hundred of threads all over the internet with people complaining about this but MS seem to just ignore it! I manage a rapidly growing large number of Svr2016 servers and I dread having to update them. A good number of them don't have a WSUS policy applying to them for various operational reasons and it takes hours to update them! Grrrrrr:mad:

I would have said that using the DoB is a MUCH greater risk than using a name. IE - it's much less common for more than one student to have the same DoB than the same name - depending on where you are in the country particularly. The other issue with that is that there is a very good chance that you are not allowed to share DoB information - therefore not allowed to use this as an email address! The general concept of Personal Identifiable Information (PiD) is that it is information that would allow someone to actually identify a specific individual. The name alone is not PiD whereas initials and DoB could well be considered as being PiD. Be Careful

My first instinct on this would be a driver issue but if you are saying this is happening on a range of different hardware then I agree, it's probably not. We use Ruckus in-house here and everything is Windows 10. We havent had any issues like this at all and I've also not heard of such an issue with Ruckus and Windows 10 so I doubt that's it. Are you clients actually seeing a drop in wireless connection itself or just losing drives etc? I wonder if it's possibly the Ruckus systems itself losing network connection?

I know I'm not going to be very helpful with this but I was looking for one of those about a year ago and couldn't find one ANYWHERE! The thing i did find was the Dell backdoor password. I'm finding it can be a bit hit and miss doing the upgrade. I've had a few laptops that it's run smoothly (although its not fast!) and some that bomb out every time and have to roll back. For those ones I'm just carrying out a fresh install from the ISO but obviously this is a bit time consuming if they have a lot of apps installed etc!

One of my customers is using MessageLabs at the moment but have moved over to Office365 and are asking if they need to keepo MessageLabs? harder to make 48 port switches look tidy when patching but advantages over power (plug sockets) and data speed - depending on how you connect the links between 24 port switchs!

Powerpoint can be funny with this sometimes, usually when its a large file however, I would agree with you and save it to a PDF and then print that - it will always work better!

That's going some if you find emails from 7 years ago! Most schools i know don't bother keeping emails for that long except for financial things!
