Looks like Money Supermarket makes the list with it's twerking strutters again. And once again the ASA discovers none of them are actually offensive (dancing bodyguard, how is that so "offensive" to viewers that it tops the list?!?!).

Moneysupermarket and Paddy Power lead advert complaints - BBC News

Full list:

1. MoneySuperMarket.com (dancing bodyguard) 1,063

2. MoneySuperMarket.com (gang dance-off) 898

3. Match.com (kissing women) 896

4. MoneySuperMarket.com (solo dance-off) 530

5. Paddy Power (blind football) 450

6. Smart Energy GB (Gaz and Leccy) 253

7. Paddy Power (Scotland fans) 220

8. Home Office (domestic violence) 216

9. Gourmet Burger Kitchen (vegetarianism) 195

10. Mars/Maltesers (disability) 151

As for the cat on the football pitch, I couldn't stop laughing at that one. :D

If people need to complain about what's on TV then they probably have a cushy life with nothing of any relevance to complain about. Send them to Syria or some other country in crisis and then remind them of their "complaint" when they get back. And burn their houses down too while we're at it. /Rant

And where is that horrible ad for PPI claims - the one that starts

Whats going on

I mean about your unclaimed PPI

I have no idea how I have refrained from shooting the telly at time when it appears (no having a gun might be part of it)

Effective and sometimes infuriating go hand in hand with advertising - I'd say that in many cases the advert makers succeeded by getting onto these lists. Number 3 is a bit sad really, even though it's a slightly cynical advert. Who in their right minds complained about number 10 - someone with absolutely no idea that doing so made them look like a dinosaur?

I can't believe that either!! Is it because she rolled her wheel over the brides foot, or because she left with the best mans number I wonder....

My least favourite is the Google Pixel advert. Not because of content but because they ramp up the volume as per normal, then ramp up the volume again with a sudden very loud music track. It blares out way beyond the volume of normal TV programmes and it's horrid, especially on the BTSport stream where their faulty ad system can cause it to play 3-4 times in a row. :(

And there are concerns about betting adverts being glued to football coverage. You can count about 4-5 different companies interrupting footage to give live odds and sitting ads on either side of the ad break.

I assumed this was in relation to the advert that heavily insinuated masturbation and ejaculation being broadcast at all hours of the day.

I mean, I'm no prude. I'm a 26-year-old man who did not have sexual relations with that woman has been in adult relationships.. but how on earth does that have anything to do with selling Malteasers? Now I'm not offended, outraged, etc, so I'm not amongst the complainants.. But still. No real need for it to be advertised in that particular manner.

Hmmmmm.... I don't think I've seen that one... must... not... search... youtube...

Synopsis is as follows:

A disabled woman in a wheelchair is conversing with her friends about herself and her boyfriend. She documents how her hands 'may have been wandering' and how she then began to have a spasm, noting that 'he wasn't complaining'. She shakes her packet of malteasers suggestively until several malteasers burst from the open end of the packet. They all laugh. Roll credits.

Now personally I reckon that's pretty crude and a little insensitive. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's offensive or harmful, though, which is what complaining about adverts is supposed to be for*. I don't care about people having adult relationships and I of course take no issue with the advertisement directly involving a disability, I just don't get why that subject matter needs to be associated with chocolate, nor why they felt the need to trope a disability for 'comedic value'? :confused2:

* Well, that and illegal things like false representation of product, etc

Ahhhh ok... my guess is that the people who complain are easily offended and don't have much better to do. I wouldn't even know where to start to complain about an advert!

I think this is a reflection of the sort of people who know how to complain and do so frequently

do you get a survey of a very small cross section of the population - and in the middle there may be some genuine complaints

Oh - and I would gladly ban all gambling adverts - I have had contact with several people whose lives have been destroyed by gambling addiction (one ended up in prison) and these just try to encourage just those people

/end rant

I hate all adverts enough to not pay attention when they're on, thus I can't get offended. Although I don't get offended by anything anyway. But if you don't like, don't watch.

But if you don't like, don't watch.

In all fairness, you can't really do that with adverts.

I can refuse to watch Game of Thrones because boobies, and Breaking Bad because drugs, because I don't want my [hypothetical] children being exposed to that information at their young age.

I can make those conscious choices because I can plan for when they will be broadcast. The thing is, the TV guide doesn't schedule adverts. You've no idea what adverts will or won't be broadcast in any given time period.

I'm not in the 'morally outraged' camp and I'm not saying these adverts are or aren't offensive, I'm just pointing out that your logic doesn't really work when applied to real life.

Good old BBC. That's how I avoid adverts. Well, that and just not watching the stream of cack that dribbles out of the schedules. I am partial to ITV2/3 movies though, and other than 118 sponsorship their ad breaks are short.

"Oh an ad break. Let's go wash up, or clean this real quick. I'll just check this and that or flip it onto BBC for a couple mins". Or, just mute the volume until you can see the show starting again. No one forces people to sit in their chair and watch the adverts. There's tons of stuff that you can get done in them. That's how I avoid them, or I just sit looking on my phone at something and not pay attention. I've seen the malteasers ad you mentioned, but since I don't pay attention, I'd never even have thought of the advert as how you described it. I just know some woman got a best mans number and that's it.

People know adverts last for about 4 mins, unless it's live TV (I think there is an EU law that states you can only have so long of adverts per hour so divide that by 3 and you'll have a rough time of how long they'll be).

I find the BBC snooker ads annoying - those trying to make the worlds most boring spectator event seem exciting. Golf coverage is nearly as boring, although there are some nice trees to look at. :)

The Halifax ads annoy me - The Flintstones, Top Cat and Scooby Do - not the ads themselves but the fact they my childhood heroes have sold out. Who next? Wally Gator? Touche Turtle? Lippy The Lion? Quick Draw McGraw? Yogi Bear?

The bit that bugs me more about them is that the Flintstones lived in a home that would be considered unfit for human habitation, I never saw the Scooby-Do gang owning homes so clearly they all just lived in that van, and Top Cat live in an actual bin.

None of those things make me want to get a mortgage from Halifax.

You're thinking of the wrong advert. There are two featuring women in wheelchairs (and one featuring a deaf woman)

I think that maybe you are reading too deeply into the background messages on these ads???????

I find the Money Supermarket hilarious, however I can see how certain segments of society, probably those who buy The Sun, may be made uncomfortable by them! I do however think they have pretty much run their course and it's time for the agency to come up with a new idea.

Actually, all the comparison sites need to come up with new ideas.

Apparently the more effectiveness of the comparison sites advert is in proportion to how annoying people find them

i.e. the MOST annoying adverts are the most effective

people are weird
