Very PC/Stone Laptops

Quick question for anyone with Very PC Thinbooks or Stone NT310-H laptops. I have 15 of each, and have major issues with the four screen hinge screws falling out; in several cases the first thing we know about it is when the hinge comes loose and ploughs through the casing, in one case causing a write-off. We're now actively checking the Thinbooks and almost all are missing some or all of these screws. I also just had the issue show itself on the first of a batch of Stone laptops as well. As you know, both models use the same case.

 

Just wondered if anyone else has experience of similar problems with either model? I'm dealing with the suppliers but after initially wondering whether we just got a duff batch of Thinbooks, the fact one of the Stone laptops has had the same issue makes me think it might be less or a build quality issue and more a fundamental issue with the product?

I am afraid to say that we have around 210 of the Thinbooks and have the exact same issue, also found that using locktight on them doesn't help as the plastic the case is made of erodes if the tiniest bit gets on the plastic itself.

 

I must say, veryPC have been pretty good at repairing them (if not a little bit slow just due to the sheer amount we have)

 

I know Stone has put in extra testing for this issue but personally I have lost trust in a lost of Clevo designs because of this.

Yes we have many Stone NT310's. Some are exhibiting this exact issue. In some cases it causes damage to the power regulation which lives on a little separate PCB and the flexing of the case when the hinge comes loose cracks this PCB. It also rips the little brass lugs out of the plastics. We have a few that have been total right-off's due to this. Sometimes we get a warranty claim, sometimes not...

Us too. In our case, Stone have visited to repair every one FOC.

All of our VeryPc thinbooks have been fine as far as the hinges are concerned at multiple sites, but I am getting a few with power issues that need the motherboards replacing. VeryPC after sales support have been fantastic.

Can you specify which model of ThinBook, as there have been a couple of designs under the name. The ones we've been buying lately are model W950JU on the black label underneath.

Model is W550SU on both.

Same here with the Stone NT310's. We are being sent a bag of screws to carry out the repairs.

Seems fairly widespread then. I've got some replacement screws to sort out our current stock the best we can and anything more major is a warranty job. Is a shame though as was looking to standardise our laptops but will likely have to look elsewhere for the next batch.

I'd suggest looking at the newer model, as the case has changed compared to the older models.

Yes same problem has recently started showing here too. We have around 60 Stone NT310 (clevo w550eu) and as reported hinge screws come out. Thanks for linking that to power (not charging failures) as we've just had a spate of those too which needs a new MOBO (approx £80 ea. from Stone) to sort. Of course they are all out of warranty now

What has been their fix? Replacing the screws or something more permanent?
