Youtube student access

Currently, we block all youtube access for students but there are more and more calls for them to have access to it especially our music department.

 

I was wondering what you guys do with regards to youtube?

 

Do you allow free reign, block it all, or have a system in place where staff can approve what students can access.

 

What is the best way of approving videos for students to access. We do have G-Suite accounts for students but they aren't really used in school yet.

Blocked for students, HGfL filtered access for staff.

Blocked for students, comments blocked for staff with Smoothwall filtering. Staff have been advised of the risk with playing inappropriate content, which comes with the territory. Total minefield opening it up for students - timewasting and safeguarding.

Enabled for students but with safe mode on, comments disabled and auto play off. Same for the staff but without the safe mode restrictions. All done though Smoothwall.

Left wide open for staff and completely blocked for students.

Enabled for staff. Enabled for KS2 Students with lessons to turn on the Restricted settings to ensure theycan do it at home as well. Any pupils found to be watching innapropriate videos or at innapropriate times access is removed for a couple of weeks. If caught again then they are removed permanently. In the 2 years that this has been running I have only removed a couple of people. We have Securus running on the school computers so this picks up the words associated with the innapropriate content.

Is there a way using GAFE/G-Suite that you can have it blocked for students unless they log into their google account? Then it's on a restricted mode? If so anyone know how this would be set up?

We are in the middle of trying to get sort out YouTube. I've set up restricted mode through Smoothwall but the user can scroll to the bottom of the page and turn it off. Has anyone else found this? Sorry if that's off topic.

However, we would like restricted mode for pupils and full access for staff but without comments.

Blocked completely for students using Smoothwall - but a couple of people responsible for unblocking permitted content via smoothwall to show "approved" videos.

We allow for staff sans comments and ads - although search term and page content filtering should still be in effect.

And block for all students.

We did a thing a while back where students in particular subject (computing I think) were allowed access during lesson time. But we had all the parents sign consent forms for this.

These days when someone asks for youtube for the kids, the safeguarding guy just says no.
