Daydreaming time now.

If you won a million quid what would be the very first thing you would buy and why?

Myself? I'd pay off my parents' mortgage.

I'd buy myself a new bum. I have a hole in mine..... :(

I'd pay off mine.. dont have to worry about parents as they dont have any expenses.

Heres another question... how many would continue working...

I would - at least for a few months. I'd make sure I parked my Porsche next to the HT's car every day.......

I wouldn’t buy a house right away instead wait to I get 500k interested then put that towards a house. You don’t want to spend the million you want to spend the interested from the million. That’s where most people go wrong then run out of cash.

£100 to £200 on horse tack and stuff. Lots of little things I always wanted to try or have. Perhaps another £100 on a saddle.

Depending on when I won the cash £2 to £3k on building a new PC. If I won today I wouldn’t do a rebuild until next gen.

5 to 10k to play around with shares. 100k to 500k on a small house with a large field for horse’s. Some sort of barn conversion would be perfect for me.

Rest in a high savings E-tradeing account and a bit more in a ISA.

Would put another 1k aside to just have fun with. You know to buy that DVD you just spotted in the shop e.c.t

EDIT: I would continue working but I might reduce my hours a bit. I would totally forget about BSF and everything to do with losing the job and stress. If I lost the job to BSF I or something I wouldn’t get another one I don’t think. Would I be working 5 years down the line? I dont think so. I wouldnt want to give up my job till the money had been in my bank a long time and I was sure had a plan to live off the money for life without running out.

Who would tell other staff members?

My aunt/uncle came up VERY big on the pools a few years back...they paid off their mortage, bought another couple of houses (rented to the kids..heh), and did some home improvements..the rest in the bank, and both continue to work.

I'd have to say I'd look at buying a house/bungalow (no stairs! Perfect for me), and paying off mum's mortgage. I don't want much - I can't think of anything I need/want, TBH..strange but true.

Cars are a waste of cash..I'd possibly get the Astra a new engine, maybe buy myself an E-Bay 2.0 Turbo Rover Maestro (stop laughing) to restore..that's it. Vauxhall for day to day, Rover for fun.

Everything else - bank. No debts to pay off, so it can sit and be useful.

Can't speak for the missus, mind you.

and Yes, I'd keep working..I can't sit all day..it drives me dotty. One of the reasons I'm so pleased to be moving on Friday to somewhere with a garden! Lots of things to do.

I'd be diving in the Caymans, so no sitting about. If you're bored, you're spending it wrong! :)

Pay off my mums equity release mortgage. Pay off my mortgage. Invest money to pay the children through university.Buy a new car, do up the house, go on a lovely world tour.

A million isn't that much anymore and you would have to carefully invest it to get enough to live on for ever.

I probably would go on working - but maybe not at the same thing!

Pay off my loans and overdraft. Overhaul my home network and my servers, rackmount everything. Buy a new bass amp. An ashdown should do it :)

Learn to drive. Get a car...get insured. Pay mum's debts and stuff. Buy my mates some crap lol that sort of thing :)

I wouldn't mind that it'd go quickly I'd have no problem continuing to work. Mebbe I'd take some advice on invseting some of it to get a return on it but that'd be about it for the time being :)

Oh yh and pay the gas bill that landed on my doorstep yesterday.

Can I adopt someone who said they would pay off their mum's mortgage?

buy myself an E-Bay 2.0 Turbo Rover Maestro (stop laughing) to restore

:DSorry still laughing we had a maestro the first time round.

Think I would invest in a set of ping golf clubs, think my 'JJB special' clubs are holding my game back! LOL

Heres another question... how many would continue working...

To combine this with another tread, I'd switch to term time only so I could come in to work after a nice holiday in the sun and ask all the others if they'd had a nice break :)

No switch to school holidays only and arrive at school on the last day of term/half term and tell everyone about your nice break.

I would continue working; for the simple reason that I know I could walk out any time I wanted knowing I could pay the next bill... the "upper hand" so to speak :)

Id buy a Bugatti Veyron and go to work with it, the kids would love it :D then do what ive always wanted to and thats throw in the towel and go so long and thanks for nothing and speed off down out of the school gates. Then go to the Job Centre and find the new job as most of the 1M would be gone with the car and Insurance and fuel :D

Id also get a new car for me mum and sort the bits out in our house that need sorting out and give her some money and see waht little was left then to invest for me, may give my sister some to help out at uni and stuff.

I'd probably be sensible and invest it or put it in a high interest account. But as soon as I got some interest or extra money from it I would blow it all on an uber computer and home entertainment system. Then the next bit of cash to come out of that 1 mill would either go towards a big house or a Aston martin (seeing how they both cost about the same).
