Most people probably already aware, but it's new to me!

 

 

You can spin the Pokeball and throw a curveball! Gets you extra XP and apparently, gives it a higher chance of staying shut. Press and hold, then spin around the ball before throwing.

Curveballs are royally me off without even trying to do them.. I'll throw the ball, it'll swing wildly to the right (and sparkle with yellow stars) and if I try to compensate for it, it goes straight I miss

You get the curveball regardless of throwing it inside the circle or not. you get the 10xp for a curveball, and a "great" or "nice" throw get you even more xp (thats throwing a ball, curve or not, into the circle)

 

The smaller the circle, the higher your chance of catching the pokemon (if you get it to land in the circle) So you have to weigh up how small you can get the circle AND STILL get the ball to hit it.

Fair enough I can understand a woman on her own getting freaked out by a bunch of strange guys approaching her but the whole tone of her article seems to be more that she is better than everyone else?

I thought that too. I also thought about other articles I have read where the author bemoans the 'unfriendly city' where people go from place to place without talking to strangers on the way "Good morning", "How are you?" etc.

 

I suppose some journalists have to find SOMETHING to write about.

To be fair, though, there's a difference between "Good morning" and "Hi, can I get your number.", no? Whilst I'm not on the social justice bandwagon, I can appreciate that it must make people (not women, people) feel uncomfortable if they're out and about on their own and someone starts following them asking for their number. I wouldn't like it, either!

Nah I can relate to what she is saying... I'm very secretive about the fact I'm playing Pogeymans and I wouldn't really want to talk to other people if I'm honest.

Off topic: Yes there is a difference, but in the context of the article the request for the number was so that:

 

...they could meet up again and catch Pokémon or something...

 

The 'or something' is a little open ended but it isn't a given that it was a request for a date.

Body language, etc. But it's not unfair to think somebody might want to play on their own, and colour me old fashioned but I consider it rude to ask someone you've just met for their number. See if they want to hang out for a while, and then ask when you're going your separate ways "So, hey, do you wanna keep in touch or anything?"

Not that I've ever had the cojones for such a move, but I don't think it's that bad if a rebuff is accepted with grace. On the other hand, I'm not a super-hot lady who constantly gets hit on by guys. (Though, looking at her picture...).

 

Anyway, on topic: perhaps there's a market for an add-in or two that displays trainer "availability"? Such as:

The "Hello Ladies"

Nah, you'd have to tie it in with the proper trainer types.. For example "Bird catcher" could either be someone who likes flying-types, or a rather chauvanistic guy

I find the openness of people playing it a positive than a negative. Let's be honest it's quite a hard game to not look like it's obvious you're playing to others in the know. Should be embraced.

Started playing last night....

 

Not sure I get the concept of having my phone on in my hand the entire time I walk somewhere, but I have a pokestation right behind my house and a gym just a little further.

The OH is nailing it on the school run, where as I get noting sat in the office

 

Any tips?

My experience so far is that you don't seem to get much if you don't move. I can sit there at home with my phone constantly on the app and only get 1 pokemon in 2 hours. If I walk around, I tend to get 3-5 in 30 minutes.

(This is, of course, not counting for uses of incense or lure modules)

Yeah... walking and more walking to catch teh pokeymens.... I found loads of exciting ones away from my house. Going for a good ol' walk along the canal tonight to net me some magicarp and pokestops (I noticed that there were 5 in a row down a stretch of canal!)

They're mostly weedles, pidgeys or drowzees for me. If I trek into the park or further away from the town centre I get less, but better/rarer 'mons

went out from the office at dinnertime on pokestop 20 metres in the wrong direction at a pub one about 100m down the road and caught a weedle, pidgey*2 and an eevee in 5 mins on teh way back nowt. Saw a paras but it was somewhere i couldnt get boo
