I cant decide if the 3T is worth the £80 extra? I need a new phone soon (although I still love my Nexus 5) but just £80 is quite a lot.

To put it into context, you're paying £80 for a smidge of a better processor and an extra 400mAh. Personally I'd say that ain't really worth it (unless you're spending from savings that you've put aside for buying a new phone, then you might as well)

I'm pretty chuffed I bought my OP3 before they discontinued it now.

That is quite a bit of money for a barely noticeable improvement, a nice xmas gifts worth.

If you've put away, say, £400-£500 with the express intention of buying a new phone, yeah, sink the extra £70/80/whatever cost. But if you're buying it 'on paycheque' and you have other options available then it's probably not worth it.

In other news, almost a month after the initial accident, my OP1 has just arrived home having been repaired. I might be getting the 3T in a few months, but it's worthwhile to keep my One as spare!

It's not like I even really *need* to upgrade - The phone is still fast enough for me and I do prefer the OPO's design to the 3T... But shinies!

I mean, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with Oxygen, but Cyanogen just offered more (or at least, did at the time of release. I haven't checked on Oxygen/AOSP for a long while)

...when we took the OnePlus 3T through our app opening speed test, we did find that the device has faster cold app opening speeds than its predecessor. Initially we were puzzled, but there was a key detail in the embargoed information that was also very quietly and quickly mentioned by Carl in the announcement video (timestamp): the file system had changed from EXT4 to F2FS, which is why there is a difference in app opening speeds. F2FS is a different file system that specifically takes advantage of flash storage like that of these phones, and as such it makes sense to incorporate it with the OnePlus 3 and 3T’s already-excellent UFS 2.0 storage solution as well.

 

The storage is the same and the processor bump is minimal, but this file system change alone was enough to bring serious improvements to real-world performance in the form of slightly-faster opening speeds for everyday apps, and dramatic improvements to loading heavy games such as Asphalt 8, as shown below.

I'm not especially keen on the new look, all the notifications on the notifications bar look to merged together making it harder to read at a glance, also now when playing music in my car whenever the next song comes on my phone lights up then goes off again....

I'm really disappointed with the Pixel XL, and I'm thinking of selling it in favour of the Huawei Mate 9...

I too am a large-phones-only sorta guy. 5.5-6in for me. Maybe 5.3. But 5 or smaller just feels tiny. And at 6/6.2" it starts to be too big for pockets.. So 5.5-5.7 is perfect for me. And yes I'm aware this is a goldmine for euphemisms.

 

I was keeping an eye on the LG V20 a while ago, which looked to be a fantastic phone on paper.. With the failure of the Note 7 I expected LG to release it in Europe to snap up the market gap left behind. But they didn't. And then it turns out it's actually really bad.

I am too - the Nexus 6 and 6P were perfect for me... I still hate the smaller screen of the Pixel XL, so will look to step back up to closer to 6" again in the future...

The new Google Assistant thing was awesome, but is now seriously flaky since the December update, no better with the January update... It keeps rebooting (boots back up without needing the PIN, so gets a signal again, but still a huge faff!)...

 

I need to reset it and start again and hope that helps, but haven't found the time to do that yet...
