MS Surface pro use for Techs

Just wondering if anyone is using a tablet such as the Surface pro for day to day tech stuff? And what you use it for if so..

We used to use a little Lenovo tablet (similar-ish to a Surface) to take with us when responding to helpdesk tickets in order to make the updating of tickets quicker and more efficient.

 

By the time we'd checked it was charged, powered on and had found it's detachable keyboard, we'd have delayed responding to the ticket by a few minutes. Found it easier to have the Spiceworks app on my phone and update tickets that way.

We use an Acer Iconia Windows tablet as a Surface Pro is way out of our price range!

 

Great for watching training videos and grabbing as you leave the office to go around the schools we support. Full blown Office 2013 on them so can pretty much do anything we need to do and it's great for accessing the front end of our helpdesk system online so can close jobs on the fly

I had the acer too but found it the exact opposite of useful. The only thing I really used it for was doing the inventory (i really hated the bluetooth scanner)

 

I'm not sure how the surface pro would make my job easier tbh. I've got 2 big(ish) monitors and a decent cpu and ram for vm's.

We have Surface 3s here - Useful for AD management/password changes, RDP to servers and our desktop stations, e-mail, files, note taking, etc.

I used to have one but I absolutely hated it and so gave it to someone else to use. It was good for carrying around but that's all. The keyboard is vile, build quality is awful, and it has only one USB Port !! Edited June 6, 2016 by WMITTech

I've got one of these; it struggles if multitasking, but is generally OK otherwise. Unfortunately my eyes are starting to find the screen size difficult, so it doesn't get as much use as it should!

I have found that with constant use throughout the day battery life can be an issue. I seem to be averaging about 5 hours between charges with basic web browsing.

I bought a Surface for us for use when we are supporting our feeder primary schools. All the information we need is stored within OneNote for each school, plus initially we were making so many notes on pieces of paper we were loosing track - now the notes are written directly into OneNote using the stylus. I managed to get a decent education bundle deal with the stylus and keyboard which wasn't much more expensive then a normal laptop.
