Metal Kerbs..... who thought that would be a smart move.

Seems they were causing some cuts in the tyres hence the welding. Either due to compression as the car rode over them or due to loose bolts.

Lets hope they resolved the issue

Just finished watching the race on recorded c4 and to be honest it wasnt the greatest of races. Infact i got bored about half way through. What is it that makes these european races so boring!?

Have to agree, what promised to be a really exciting race with lots of overtaking didn't really materialise. I think the long straight just played to the mercedes powered cars and removed any real racing. Was one of the worst races of the series as a spectator.

Yeah, after all the excitement of the practice sessions and qualifying, the race was dull. Entirely predictable and the overtakes were all in the same place, and Hamilton lost his chance for a fight through a bloomin' steering wheel switch.

 

My opinion may also have been negatively influenced by my making a last minute switch on my fantasy line up from Perez + Bottas to Hulkenberg + Ricciardo, after Bot & Per both had issues in FP3. Shouldn't have done that

On the Hamilton issue, you guys think the radio silence rule is unfair? I notice Raikkonen also had an issue, asked if it was the same issue as a previous race, and they couldn't even tell him that! I think it's crazy.

Radio rules made sense when they were introduce but there do seem to be some niggles that need sorting out

 

Not being able to tell Hamilton what the problem is when he has no chance of finding it himself was a bit daft.

 

Maybe they should be able to tell the driver how to fix a problem like that under certain circumstances with agreement from the people who look at incidents

Prove that there is a problem then agree with the FIA to be able to tell the driver WHAT the problem in connected to but let the driver sort out what to do

Hamilton gets flustered when under pressure and that starting grid position was probably part to blame.

 

The solution should be quite simple though - get the team to have a code so they can secretly say yes or no:

 

So, for example, if you want to convey "no" - say "I'm Not allowed to say", for yes - "You know I can't tell you".

It's a laughing stock really. Of course Hamilton is under pressure, he's fighting for position on an unforgiving circuit and on top of that is having to manage a network of switches and systems more complicated than anything we touch. And I have no doubt that at the time, he was thinking his engineer (thanks to this silly rule) was acting a bit like the indian call centers we all loath to speak to and never get an answer from. "Sorry, I can't deviate from my script/Sorry, Charlie Whiting says no".

At 230MPH (blimey, some good speeds coming from that track this weekend!) they should be racing, not fault diagnosing.

 

Talking of quick speeds though - Williams managed an officially clocked pitstop of 1.92 seconds.

Apparently Rosberg had the same issue BUT he had just changed a setting when it happened - so he had a clue as to the problem. He changed it back and the problem went away. By chance Lewis started with the duff setting so had no obvious clues to work from

All the same it is asking the teams to come up with a secret code - if they change it for every race the chances of it being discovered are remote

I think we had a lot of secret codes beforehand during the last "radio ban" which is why it was lifted originally. It'll go back to the same way.

So not only have drivers got to drive, race, overtake, tyre manage, brake manage, heat manage, twiddle 240 settings on the steering wheel and magically cross the finish line after 70 odd laps, they need to learn a dictionary of codewords.

After the race today, is this another nail is Rosberg's coffin with Merc? Lewis was on the outside and Nico claims lewis turned into him. HA! Rosberg, you cheat, you didnt turn into the corner and then didnt let hamilton back on track.

 

I seem to think the pressure is starting to get to him.

 

As for button, excellent result for him and McLaren, good to see them up there even if it was for one race. As for Manor, again, p10 was excellent. Ok, vettle and Perez both crashed out which promoted Manor to p10.

All in all it was a race that did not pan out quite as expected.

I don't think Nico will be leaving Merc, since there is not really anywhere else vacant at present, but it might constrain our viewing pleasure if Toto has to tell them to follow team orders like in 2014.

Nico is just a bit of a git imo. Mind you, in fairness, so is Lewis now and again.

I do find it amusing how many people are 100% behind Rosberg and refuse to let him take the blame (not as if he will) for something that everyone can clearly see was a 100% fault collision. And the boos - entirely unacceptable in this day and age!

I can't see how that was anything but Nico's fault. Lewis was ahead and as far to the edge of the track as possible, Rosberg drove straight into him. He didn't lock up, he just didn't turn in.

If the rumors are true in regards to Raikonnen's ultimatum at Ferrari, there could well be a position opening up there for Rosberg, but it's going to be a step backwards in terms of career progression.

 

I think next weekend is going to be very interesting in terms of the behaviour of the two Mercedes drivers, I can't wait, going to be down at trackside on the saturday and sunday, any other geeks in attendance?

Only GP I went to was when Silverstone was rained out about 3 years ago. Never again. Its so much better watching it on TV. Rip off.

I found it extremely good value for money especially on race day - support races, main event, after race entertainment, free ability to walk pretty much where you like, watching Red Arrows and the like, and an atmosphere you just can't beat.

Were you knee deep in mud?

Were the campsites closed?

Did you have to camp on the overflow car park that was a lake?

Did you have to bribe the security with a load of beer to get in the overflow.

Were the toilets closed and you had to poo in a carrier bag in your tent?

Did you have to stack 3 disposable BBQ's on top of each other to keep them alight at 1.00 in the morning under an umbrella?

Was the entertainment was finished by the time you got in cos the access roads were closed until midnight.

 

And so on.......

 

I did. Never again.

I think it was 2012 when it was almost cancelled due to rain.

No, definitely wasn't. But not sure what anyone could expect during a rainy British GP. Luck of the draw.
