It'll be Pascal Werhlein. Has to be for one year - giving Lewis the next title, if the cars are still dominant after the rule change that is.

Hmmm, im not sure if the Mercs will be at the front next year with it been an aero formula. I think Red Bull might just edge infront.

It will be very much an aero formula however the engines and systems remain the same. Mercedes will still therefore have the edge in speed. It could certainly be close!

Sad to see Nico go. I've gotten a fair bit more respect for him this year. Crap has happened between him and Lewis but they've kept their heads between them. Nico has done exactly what he needed to do, he put his hands up and said he is over the moon he managed to beat one of the sports' greats in the same (slightly more reliable car) and now he can go and be the family man he so clearly wants. They've both been little divas at some points over the years but frankly that's to be expected when you're in a dominant car and adrenaline is rushing. It certainly doesn't help when you get silly old farts like Jackie Stewart putting in their tuppence every 2 minutes, and loads of media folks fanning the flames of hate.

Good luck to Nico, and will be interesting to see who partners Lewis next year.I don't think Alonso would have any issues with going back to be Lewis' teammate, but don't think he will. I also expect it to be Wierlein, however Bottas would be interesting.

To be honest, I think it'll be Bottas, with Wehrlein to Williams, or even Paul di Resta (who is on Williams' books at the moment as Reserve Driver) filling that race seat.

But I'd like to see Ricciardo there, with Sainz to RBR. That'd be awesome to see.

I also do not want to see Vettel there because he has been a whiny little b1tch this year and I don't like him. Never had a problem with him before this year, but all the radio messages saying people he's racing should get out of his way... how about, and this is a strange idea for Formula 1 I know but bear with me, how about you overtake them.

I'd say it it'd definitely be one of the Merc engine customers. Cant see the Red Bull drivers changing in view of the regulation changes.

But also... I can't see Toto taking on a strong driver like e.g. Verstappen.

They've had too many problems with LH and NR scrapping... in public and on track.

I can see a situation like Vettel and Webber where there is a clear no.1 and no.2 driver.

Jenson is a possibility but depends on Honda/McLaren

DiResta is also a possibilty for a 1 yr number 2 driver as it does not affect any existing team lineups

Can't see it being Jenson, alas, much as I'd love it otherwise--he's out not because he got replaced but cos he wanted the break. Don't think Merc could pay him enough at this point.

It'd be brilliant though, wouldn't it?

Wonder what the odds are on Perez--he's shown pretty fine form this year, and is at a Merc engine customer...

Wolff has stated at the weekend that he did not want to approach someone who was already contracted to drive for a team next year, but never say never in F1 land :)

Yea that was news on Monday, but McLaren have said Nope as Alonso has a watertight deal for 2017 with them, and the Merc board are still edgy over him as he was part of the Spygate scandle last time he was at McLaren and left..

My money is still on either Werhline or Bottas

I would love Alonso to do so, just because it'll be amusing to see button's reaction. He's still technically a reserve driver so could be called up if McLaren can't fill the spot? :D

A quick summary of this year's season: (you may need to click to view it directly on youtube)

That video has just caused the biggest laugh in our office. It actually outdid the news of Birmingham sacking Garry Rowett yesterday!

Is it just me, or...?

I also got annoyed that they didn't do the 8-bit movement right for the cars, because I am a grumpy old sod, but I did love all the little nods (Street Fighter 2 stage selection!) so I should cheer up and shut up, I suppose :)
