I'm going to try and stay off the F1 websites until after work when I can then watch the practice repeats... however I do have the alarm set ready for Quali and the Race :)

Both F1 and MotoGP..................an absolute must!!

 

If I had to choose it would have to be MotoGP....those guys really earn their salt!!

 

Not that F1 isn't dangerous in its own way just MotoGP is where its at for thrills and spills! :)

 

Will be recording practise to watch at a decent time when I can absorb more easily :)

Manor's livery seems a bit bare.

It more a case of they don't have sponsors all over it like everyone else (since they don't have many compared to last season.)

Compared to the old days, all of them apart from the Force India look quite bare. When I started watching F1 in 1991, they were absolutely festooned with sponsor logos. The FW20 and 21 from 98/99 were especially bad.

I'll watch the first few but I cant be bothered getting up at 5.00 for it.

 

Is the weekend live on Ch4? I'll be up on Sat morning anyway. Is live qually on C4 ?

C4 only have highlights for Aus, but at least you can watch the race at 1pm on Sky F1 if you don't want the early start.

Well! Thats an hour i wont get back. The new quali rules are a joke! 💩💩. Drivers sitiing in the pits and getting out the cars as the clock now determines quali. Quali even ended 4 mins early.

 

They should..

1. Go back to the old ways

2. If they insist on knockout, at least give drivers at least 2 maybe 3 laps. 1 lap isnt enough

3. Draw the drivers out a hat

4. Give all drivers an hour and then do knockouts.

 

The whole sport is on its arse. The technical side is good but they need to sort out quali. Im looking forward to MotoGP this evening and cant wait for touring cars to start.

Well Ch4 really seem to have done F1 proud - just wish the whole shebang was being broadcasted by their fantastic presentation team. They have got rid of the female presenter who I just found annoying, giving a decent bit of time in front of the camera to the fantastic Lee Mackenzie, back comes the much missed enthusiasm of Murray Walker and including Mark Webber is inspirational as well. Fantastic to see so many new faces as part of th presentation team as well. As to their opening shot with the Royal Air Force and Jensen Button, well that's just the bees knees.

 

Wonderful to see Fernando walk away from what was left of his car.

My verdict:

 

C4 taking over: Brilliant. A few too many adverts for my liking, but a really good choice of presenters and technical analysis. BBC dropped the ball some time ago and C4 have nicely picked it up. I never liked Suzi Perry as a presenter. Not too sure about Steve Jones, either. He seems keen though.

 

Qualifying: Exciting at first as the bottom ones were eliminated, but the last five minutes when it wasn't worth taking your car out was a huge embarrassment. Thankfully they've changed the idea back now. When the FIA come up with new ideas, all I think of is this spoof advert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wH_ihfDnohI

 

Race: Pretty good. Brilliant start for Ferrari, good finish for Team Haas and Jolyon Palmer. And the Alonso crash was just jaw dropping.

 

Highlights of the weekend:

 

David Coultard on Ferrari parts prices: "I bet many fans would be willing to pay £800 for one of Sebastian Vettell's nuts".

 

And Hamilton on the radio after the Red Flag: "How do I turn off the alarm?". Reply: "Sorry Lewis we can't tell you".

Ever since ITV stopped doing F1, I've always thought "Is it Jim Rosenthal? Is it James Allen? Then that's OK then" :)

Few bits of news that came out last night that you might not have seen.

 

Sky has the exclusive rights to F1 in the UK until 2024, so when the C4 deal expires in 2019 you will need access to Sky for all live coverage, however highlights of all races and qualifying will be free to air via one of their channels (most likely the new Sports Mix). The British GP will be free to air for the duration of the coverage.

From 2017 they are broadcasting in Ultra HD for those of you with a Sky Q.

 

Quali session in Bahrain could remain with the elimination format as not all the stakeholders think the knee jerk reaction to revert back was thought through (plus the FIA did not want to change the rules mid season which is why they brought it in for race 1 instead of race 5 like originally suggested by BE)

Rip off. No wonder audiences have fallen. What is Sky Sports? £25 a month. Chuck in the same for MotoGP on BT Sports and thats £50 a month for about 6 hours of TV.

I best make the most of watching the next four seasons of F1, then, because they're the last seasons I'll be watching.

Sky are taking a massive gamble with this, F1 has the potential to be a lame duck by 2019 if nothing is don't to sort out the governance and appeal of the sport. Mercedes walked it last year but it was at least if was more of a spectacle then when Schumacher was the only one in the race.

 

If the FIA, BE and Teams don't sort themselves out drivers will walk away and start GP1.
