Bootable USB drive for Ghost... is it possible ?

Just a quick question, Can you make a bootable usb drive to use Ghost? I dont really want to carry a cd everywhere with me and a usb would make much more sence,

If I remember correctly doesn't Ghost have an option for making a bootable USB? It's a while since I did it but Ghosted 20 laptops in such a way.

I know its not the most idealest of ways of doin it but if i can prove that ghosting works then hopefully my boss will invest some money into it

Ah now convincing budget holders of a "good way of doing it" is quite another matter;-) Try telling them it's a whizzy new gadget that everyone is using - that tends to do the trick with my boss.

I am sorry to jump off topic slightly but that comment just made me laugh "whizzy new gadget that everyone is using"

 

Also yh you can make a bootable USB if i remeber correctly when using Ghost last,

 

I have used the "HP Drive Boot Utility in the past to make a bootable USB! i dont know if thats worth thinking of.

Yes you can. I've got a WD 120gig drive with a few ghost images on it. It's not quick but does the job.

There are some complex methods documented around the web. It's easy on a small USB Drive, but if you want anything useful, like a USB HDD then you have to use other ways of doing it - the utilities around won't make a bootable disk that's bigger than 2Gb.

 

I've tried PuppyLinux and it's install to USB HDD app, which works nicely - however I didn't get around to modifying grub to boot the ghost.

No I've tried that SYSMAN - you can format ok to FAT16/32 but not copy over the system - even with tweaked versions of format to try and get over the 2gb barrier.

I have got a bootable USB for use when imaging my machines ( ghost multicast). It was Peter from SCL online sorted it out - To be honest it was a bit beyond me but as we have such a good relationship with SCL you could ring and ask him - or I will if it would help/ PM me if you need more info

Its a bit convoluted, but i create a Net Boot Disk and then use a program called Flashboot to make it into a bootable USB drive.

 

Alternatively, the Boot Disk can be burnt to CD. You can even add ghost.exe or a batch file interface for directly imaging PCs.

bartpe is available on usb i use it to run ghost

Forget the USB, Create a floppy image of dos,ghost and network drivers then PXE boot the img file using pxelinux. Saves carrying a USB around and means you can do several machines at once. Alternatively use PXE booting partimage as its free, so you don't need to convince anyone other than yourself.

I use the HP tool to format the disk

Using DOS boot files I either d/led from MS or copied off a boot floppy, cant remember

 

Then put Net Boot Disk onto it - http://www.netbootdisk.com/

Which has virtually every NIC driver and works with all of ours. Also edited the logon script on the net book disk so it connects to a network share with ghost.exe

Goot ghost boot usb pen here and it works fine (quicker than disk) but not on all machines the ghost boot wizard does it

im having trouble creating a ghost 7.5 bootable usb to use for multicasting at work, as i destroyed the only one we had. i would love if someone would respond and help me out. thank yo for you patience. please reply.

Exactly the same way we run it, we have BartPE with ghost32.exe on the USB Stick - we just run it straight from there!

 

bartpe is available on usb i use it to run ghost

hey i need some help with a norton boot usb, ive tried everything and would love some help. we have norton ghost 7.5 corporate. please reply.

so i formated the usb disc with dos and then used netbootdisk that i had downloaded do i just add the ghost.exe to the disc? and how do i manipulate the logon script, i think i did it before i left work today, but i wont know till i get back there tomorrow, if someone has a tutorial i would greatly appreciate the gesture. also, is there a package that i can insert into my ndis drivers for a ton of nics for norton ghost 7.5 through a template?
