Afternoon,

Just wondering if anyone has a smartwatch and what they can recommend? I have an iPhone 6 at the moment and have been looking at the Samsung Gear S2 but im not sure if they would work together at all! Not a fan of the Apple Watch.

I am debating on upgrading to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge but that wont be for a few months yet!

Cheers.

When you get an android phone it opens up your range of watches VASTLY.

I have a Sony Smartwatch 3. I've had it for just under a year I think... I bought it because you can load music onto it and listen without a phone with bluetooth headphones. It has inbuilt GPS so you can run apps without the phone. What it doesn't do - heart rate monitor. Price -£120 off Amazon.

I've seen some of the Motorolla ones and they look mint. Don't know about functionality though.

edit: just had a look at the Gear S2 and it looks lush. Might save up for one of those bad boys!!

I have an Apple Watch and I was skeptical when I first got it, but I'm loving it. The customisation compared to Android is a bit "meh" but other than that its great. One thing I find particularly impressive is that instead of carrying around my phone for music at the gym I can sync playlists to my watch and use bluetooth headphones, really neat.

if you can get it cheap enough the ms band does the job for me worked on my old windows phone seems reasonably happy on android and is supposed to work on iphone. I wouldnt pay full price for one but at £60 for the older band 1 ive not regretted it yet

I have the Apple Watch, got it on launch day last year so had it 10/11 months i love using it for Apple Pay in shops, and very handy when i visit London as i don't have to buy any oyster card or tube tickets, just press the watch button twice quickly and present it to the barrier and I'm through. I use the activity logging side of it too with myfitnesspal , and i love that my calendar for today is on my watch face. I answer phone calls on it when my hands are busy in the kitchen, and using the iPhone in the car for music i love just being able to say 'Hey siri, play song blah blah blah'. Its also cool how i can from my watch connect to any projector in the school and start off a Powerpoint /Keynote with Airplay.

So for me i love my smart watch, i did get the cheap £300 entry sport version because i was unsure if this is a product i wanted. I would miss it now and would not want to be without it so when V2 comes out i will go up to the £900 SS version of the Apple Watch.

I know you said you were not much for the Apple Watch, but can you do things like pay for things with the Android ones? They just don't seem to be as feature complete (with actual useful things not gimmicks).

There is now an Android Wear app for iOS. Functionality is reduced when compared to Android phones but some functionality is there at least. You'd be able to buy a Wear device, use it with your iPhone and use it with an Android phone later on if you wanted to. There's quite a large range of watches out there running Android Wear, LG and Motorola are among them I believe.

The Gear S2 is supposed to be getting compatibility with iOS devices at some point as well. Samsung devices don't run Android Wear, they run Tizen so you may be limited to Samsung phones if you go onto Android later on.

Other than not having Apple pay, everything the mentioned so far is possible with an Android Wear device. It's perfectly possible to put Android Wear onto a Samsung device (it's just an app download). Edited by Geoff

There was google wallet but I don't think it ever took off. I can't pay for things with mine currently.

I had a look at the compatibility list and my HTC phone was on there (y)

Thanks for the replies! The Apple Watch seems really expensive as well (like most Apple products!)

I was hoping the Gear S2 would at least work with some functionality with the iPhone until I could upgrade my phone. It seemed the best on reviews and I like the design. Might rethink and have a look at some of the other suggestions though....

I have a pebble time and a smartwatch 3 and in all honestly I use the pebble a lot more for the better battery it has (weeks v 2 days max on the Sony). However I prefer android wear as an OS and being able to speak commands like text them call this person even play a song in spotify is super convenient!

If your interested I will in all likelihood be selling my smart watch 3 so let me know if your intrested!

I have a normal pebble, my battery lasts around 2 weeks! (Static picture and switch off at night) Does drain the battery more if you have moving images.

Cheap smartwatch that does what it says on the tin! Get my email/texts to it and I can control my music. All I really need! That I have a picture of Holly on it.

£300 is not cheap and £900 for an apple watch is way too much

My disposable after rent, fuel, food, gas, council tax, water, broadband and electric is over £2200 a month. I've got no kids, no dependents and i'm single so £900 on a watch is not expensive and £300 is pocket change.

Is that it!! Pfft you peasant. I have £6,300 a month with nothing to do with. The amount I earn makes it actually difficult to see ordinary people from my ivory tower!
