Kaspersky Endpoint for Business, ESET or Stick with Sophos!?

I've been looking at alternative solutions to our current Sophos solution (won't go into why), and I like the patch management of the Kaspersky product, although I've heard good things about ESET (and bad especially the new client and windows 10)

 

Has anyone upgraded to the latest versions of these products and how have you found them from footprint (we have some v.old hardware) to usability.

I took a look on their forums, seemed to be a number of people reporting the same issue regarding crashing, domain login issues, I haven't looked in the last few days post Bett, but they seemed to still be looking at customers reporting the issues.

 

I've just taken a look and I cant seven find the relevant threads....spooky......ahhh there they are......

I don't want to write it off as these could be isolated instances, wanted to see who is using it fine here.

Yes we have an EEES and also have SCCM, so I could use this an an endpoint.....what's the footprint like ?

(unfortunately it doesn't come with a removal tool, when you deploy the client.....and I've lots of clients.) I could script it but I'm lazy (and it's unsupported)

I'm just setting up the new version (v6 - Endpoint client version 6.3.2016.0) of ESET now (on Windows 8.1 machines, Windows Server 2012 R2 domain and servers). With version 5, you generated an MSI file with appropriate settings from their console, then distributed that MSI to your Windows clients. With version 6, you now have a web-based console. You install the Endpoint client by first installing the Remote Management client, then selecting what software to install from the server. This seems to add a further manual step to the process - I liked being able to generate an MSI installer containing update server settings, distribute it to clients then forget about it. This way, I seem to have to log in to the management console to update any new computer I add to the network - another manual step to remember to do. I'm currently trying to get an auto-install to be triggered whenever a new machine is added to the network, but it doesn't seem to be going well - the client doesn't seem to want to accept its license key.

At one of the companies that I used to work with, we used ESET and we had no problems with it what so ever, at my current workplace we use sophos and we had quite a lot of complications, it is very strict, not giving you any freedom. On the other hand ESET is quite flexible and only heard positive feedback for both older and newer product versions.

The entries are identical (computer name, Active Directory location, MAC addresses and so forth), so you'd think something server-side could match up and eliminate duplicate entries.

Sophos EndPoint here.

 

We have a startup script which checks for a sophos file and if it doesn'e exist it installs the client then workstation just needs to restart to update.

 

All the policies for update servers, HIP settings and application control are done from the Management console on the server. Being running with Sophos about 2.5 years so far without many issues.

Personally I haven't dealt much with the documentation side but when I've been on the phone with them they have swiftly sorted problems and general queries.

I'm currently moving over from our paid McAfee solution to free avast. Anyone had any experience with avast? Only reason I ask is because I have 1 week to deploy a new AV and haven't got time to setup the free Microsoft one. Will hopefully move over to this in the future. Been really impressed so far as it has picked up a few things McAfee has missed.

The LA used to sell Kaspersky to it's schools and it wasn't to bad. We did however decide to go it alone and use System Center Endpoint Protection.

Vote for Kaspersky here. I tried Sophos a year ago but found a few of the things it did a backwards step from KAV. The main downside of Kaspersky is they take AGES to bring out updated versions for new versions of Windows. About 7-8 months is the norm.

We use to have Kaspersky which was a great product, however when it came to negotiating the renewal price it soared . We move away and now use Vipre, an excellent product and came with 200 free staff licences. :rolleyes:Happy days……

Just to stick my nose in again, I was this (-----) close to going for Vipre when i renewed last. Great product and best price around other than Microsoft endpoint. It just lost out because I needed something with encryption management.

Would definitely recommend ESET. I have used it with clients in the past. Very small footprint and runs very well. The removal tool that comes with this product is second to none! Good educational pricing available as well!
