An icon for many, will be sorely missed, thoughts to his family.

He was a musical genius, and a legend at that. However, for me, my fondest memories will be my youth watching Labyrinth over and over, and watching The Man Who Fell to Earth. RIP

Heard this sad news on the way to work. Did wonder initially why Radio 4 was playing Is There Life on Mars

Quite upset - his early stuff was the soundtrack to my teenage years and I was always fascinated by his ability to change himself into a different person and perform different, yet still stunning, music

I wore out copies of Bowie albums in my teen years but the replacement copies still make it onto the play lists some four decades later. One of the greats. Very sad news.

On the bright side, he went surrounded by his family, and none of them had blabbed about it to the media like everyone else usually does. I hadn't a clue, and whilst I wasn't a massive Bowie fan (I don't dislike him, it's just before my time) I would've seen this in the news if it were publicised earlier. So good on them there.

Not a fan of his music but total respect to a man that was never afraid to be different and touched so many.

 

Even as a Non Fan I know many of his songs, the lyrics, tunes and can understand why people loved his music.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. Fingers crossed we won't have to put up with the X-Factor any more, it's ratings have dropped.

Yep, same here, which corroborates the BBC's article on him, too. David Robert Jones didn't want to be confused with Davy Jones from the Monkees, so he changed to David Bowie instead.
