Best and greatest method for network O/S Deployment...?

The Server, I've got WDS On my technician PC I have MDT and a .wim file. So somehow I need to create the boot image for WDS and somehow, i dont know how, that links to the MDT/.wim file? I can do I.T lol. im just slow. Can someone help me to see where my understanding is lacking? Why is MDT needed? -
"Some Settings are managed by your system administrator" ?
Zezima replied to Zezima's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
So here is the root cause ( i believe ) We were logging in with the incorrect DC admin account. AD by default inside the "users" folder contains a user called "administrator" (built-in account for adminstrating the computers/domain) this is how I should be logging in. Now when I log in with "administrator" I have full access to what I need. Also, I noticed when I run gpresult /h results.htm that all the user policies are gone. Shrunk from 15 policies to 0. I knew my account was wrong, i just didn't know how. Originally I thought I had to be using a Local User Account which are used in Read-Only Domain Controllers but It turns out a GC Domain Controller is not the same as read-only (i wasted lots of time trying to access local user accounts). Essentially I learnt today that DCs will likely have no local administrator and that AD has a "built-in" administrator which should be used for maximum access/permissions and for the sake of consistency. -
"Some Settings are managed by your system administrator" ?
Zezima replied to Zezima's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
They are coming from the DC (itself) as appose to locally. I wanted to login with the local administrator but I couldn't even access UAC . However now I see GPO has the "disable UAC" policy applied. "117 Disable UAC" is applied to the entire domain (Xxx.internal) this is a problem because I want it to apply to everything except this server. Can I exclude the GPO from the server? -
Best and greatest method for network O/S Deployment...?

Ha, our server is full up. only 5GB space left so not even space for the image to go on there. Can i centralise this in another way? -
I've added the domain_user to the local_administrator_group for a client. However I still can't change the proxy settings which are "greyed out", underneath it says "some settings are mnaged by your system administrator"... Not sure what else I can do besides give full local admin rights? I tried using a .reg file to disable/enable proxy but that isn't working.

Meraki - Do I really have to hit "install" every time?
Zezima replied to Zezima's topic in Cloud Services
Once I supervise with a macbook via configurator. Can I still continue to use meraki as I have been? -
Hi, We are using roughly 50 ipads, each with about 39 apps that are going to be deployed... Is there a way of installing the apps without requiring me to hit "install"? .... I just had a feeling it might be supervised-related? can I supervise a device w/o configurator (if its possible)?

Is there a way I can boot into safe mode or something? I can get into recovery mode but can't load the desktop, it just gives me options to update the bootloader and a few other things. I still cant log into the computer to check drivers.

So, here is a short (sped up) video of how the issue looks. https://youtu.be/O-NqdHrl7ts I installed Linux Mint (XFCE) from a USB stick onto this miniture laptop. The first time launch was succesfull but every time since then the screen seems to zoom in. I cannot even navigate the rest of the page using the mouse. any ideas as to why this might be happening? Thanks in advance!

Quick question - Will installing a 2nd server disrupt my network?
Zezima replied to Zezima's topic in Windows Server 2012
Sounds good. I thought it sounded normal to have multiple server for different roles but felt a hesitance to install this server... just in case. thanks for helping! -
Hi there, The network is using Windows server 2008 for Active directory/printers. however I plan on installing a windows 2012 server onto a virtual host. Would this disrupt current the network? The Virtual Host is a "standalone" windows 10 machine which is not domained. I only want to set up a WSUS server which ill tell Clients (manually) to look there for updates. --I'm only asking because I heard that installing another server could cause issues? thaanks

The user name or password is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007052E) At E:\mapPrinter.ps1:24 char:1 + $net.AddWindowsPrinterConnection($printerpath) + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ + CategoryInfo : OperationStopped: ( [], COMException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException $password = "hidden" | ConvertTo-SecureString -asPlainText -Force $username = "hidden\sy2" $cred = New-Object System.Management.Automation.PSCredential($username, $password) New-PSDrive -Name "P" -PSProvider FileSystem -Root "\\svr-001.hidden.internal\RMPublic" -Persist -credential $cred $net = new-object -com WScript.Network $printerpath = "\\svr-001\CR2 New" $net.AddWindowsPrinterConnection($printerpath) above is my error and my powershell script. The New-PSDrive to map the P Drive is working. The adding printer part is not workng and that is what gives me the error. I can't figure out how I'd pass through credentials with the AddWindowsPrnterConnection function. I didn't think credentials were even needed, because printers are fully shared for anyone to access on the network. Anyone got any ideas? been trying this all morning - i've wasted an amazing amount of time :S

Id really love to do that lol. Havn't liked how they have been with me so far. They asked for prove that I unstinalled the software on 2 PCs so I sent them SS of the activated software and the event viewer saying that they were uninstalled. I sent it to them yesterday - Im just hoping for a response so i can install this on teahcer laptops for christmas break. Any idea where Id usually find the EULA for purchased products? Would it be in the emial of whoever bought it?
-
I wont mention the company name, but its a company that creates disc learning resources. Mainly flash applications for the teahcers whiteboard. We bought 6 "permanent" licesnes. long story short, I used all 6 licesnes... then realised I was suppose to install them for teachers laptops (not their classroom PC). When I called the company they said I am unable to release the licenses and once they have been used then thats it... you cant re-use them. They ARE being helpful and siad if I can prove I removed the software, that they will give me 2 more licesens i can use. I really appriciate this, if I am totally in the wrong here. But is that right? That even though we paid 100s of pounds for 6 licenese, that once they have been entered on the PC we cannot take it off... the company has no legal obligation to release that license? Do I have any legal rights to transfer the license or release it from the software? Would it depend on the type of license? Thanks

YEah, so. A teacher was using her PC, she said she tried to save her document and had some "not responding errors" then it crashed. When I arrived and booted the PC the first time it was trying to boot from USB (even though USB is underneath HDD in the list - i know this because i set them up over summer). I looked in the boot options and the HDD was missing. I've tried a new HDD in that PC and now its working (just building a new image as i type this) Ideally Id really like to try to recover a word document that the teacher was working on. The two PCs i have tried this HDD in do the same thing... just freeze on the BIOS splash screen. any ideas to why this is happening?

Anyone experienced problems with MS in tune saying the end PC doesn't meet the requirments? Im tryiing to install office via in tune, we know it IS compatible because it the same version was uninstalled a few days ago. We uninstalled office with the intention to re-install it via in tune any adivce to help troubleshoot?
-
Aparently there was a hidden update that didn't go through properly. our local authority resolved for us. Thanks for all responses, didnt expect so many :L <3

Every PC in the school says "incompatible database" when trying to log in. Solus on the server hasn't updated over the weekend and neither has the sims/solus clients. I've got a call logged with support but just curious as to whether anyone knows how to troubleshoot / what the cause might be as teachers are desperate to get this back thx
