How do I troubleshoot issues that appear on one of our VLANs?
Zezima replied to Zezima's topic in Learning Network Manager
We are using Zonedirector 1100 Ruckus for our WLANS... im looking on their now and cant find anything about the VLANs.. although i have found that the Student WLAN is VLAN ID 20 and the staff WLAN is VLAN ID 1... Where are VLans usually configured from? Would it be somewhere on this Zonedirector 1100 or would it be from somewhere else? -
How do I troubleshoot issues that appear on one of our VLANs?
Zezima replied to Zezima's topic in Learning Network Manager
Ah,btw i forgot to mention that the proxy server isn't managed by us, we connect to the hertfordshire grid proxy server. I think because of this i cant use wireshark? from memory i ithkn it just shows you that all the data is sent to the proxy? And would it be a proxy issue related the proxy itself? if you are on the StaffWifi VLAN and are on the same proxy (just not transparent) it works prefectly fine... (i will try wireshark again when back at my desk though) -
Hi, We are a school using a Pixton (a comic book creator webapp) and have found an issue when kids record using their microphone.. We have two VLANs which both show up as wireless networks (StaffWifi and StudentWifi). The StaffWifi was our only wireless network and you have to configure the proxy settings once you've connected. The StudentWifi is behind a Transparent proxy, so kids can just connect with their chromebooks and be connected to the internet.. When kids are on pixton and they try to record using the in-built mic on the chromebook, it gives an error saying "oops your recording could not be saved" but if you switch to the StaffWifi, it works! would Anyone know how I would go about troubleshooting this? I know how the network works sort of works in theory, but never actually had to troubleshoot a VLan/wlan/transparent proxy. Im doing this partly as a learning curve. Thanks,

So far this moring i've been doing what I always do.... just go through the profiles that show high usage and remove/compress whatever I can... But i was just wondering if anyone had any good techniques that they use for clearing space liek this? cheers

Why do we have roaming users in our C:/users folder?
Zezima replied to Zezima's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Ive just looked at the users folder again, and noticed that all the profiles are from the "TeachingStaff" template and they all have security settings which only allows the user of that folder is have full control... (normal so far...) Whats strange is that there is one folder of a past student in there :S... and this one is not protected... when you go to the security Tab in properties, it has instead tried to give full control to a user with just a load of numbers.. "S-1-5-21-1057456021-913282429-3328907461-2520" ---- and Im not anymore i use to be and everytime i sign up to a forum, I have a tempation to take this name lol -
Are your AppData folders being copied to the server? Or are they excluded from roaming?

Has anyone else tried this method? After lots of troubleshooting today I've started to think the issue is must be related to this setting on chrome. Last week I set up chrome group policy on our network and set it so one of our Computer suites has restricted chrome from running in the background. Since then we have still had a few issues... I feel like issues could still be happening because of old group policies and settings... so i've reset all of the students profiles. I'm hoping that students will have no issues and staff will carry on having issues. If this is the case then I will deploy the group policy to the whole school and think about resetting all teacher profiles (will need to warn teachers before I reset because they will lose their desktop files and probably other important settings). Remote Process Explorer is a GREAT tool for a quick-fix... EDIT: Also, one more point id like to add... While troubleshooting I found that if i changed the default browser BACK to internet explorer or Firefox, chrome would work again once you relog. Possibly something to do with chrome being added onto a network that was designed for IE maybe? WHO KNOWSSS Even if this gets fixed.. its still frustrating that we couldnt find what was causing chrome to start up every time...

Why do we have roaming users in our C:/users folder?
Zezima posted a topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
So, i've just been clearing out some space on our server and noticed we had lots of users (10-20) in the c:/users folders, This doesn't make sense to me because the only user logged into our server is the local administrator... and for some reason the C drive has aquired user accounts from active directory? Going to talk to our support tomorrow, but just wondering if anyone experienced this before or know what might be causing this? Thanks,, EDIT: its an RM CC4 network. -
Set "Allow proxies for shared networks" For All Users on Chromebooks
Zezima replied to AngryTech's topic in Cloud Services
Just to let you know what happend with us.. We decided to create new VLAN and WLAN which is behind a transparent proxy... Seemed to have sorted all our issues -
Hello, Since the end of last year, we are a school with a lot of chromebooks. One thing all teachers are requesting is some software which will monitor the screens of kids using chromebooks (much like RM tutor does). I've looked around and found NetSupport, Teacher Dashboard and one other which i lost the link of... Taking a look at them all they are all very expensive and they are compiled with lots of extra features we dont need. All we need is to see what is on their screen.... none of these extra features to let you lock the device, send messages etc... I understand this is a VERY open ended question, but does anyone know what sort of route id go down in making a package like NetSupport or Teacher dashboard? Something which send all the screens of the chromebooks over to the teacher... From what i know alreay, im pretty sure im going to need to make a Web App for the teacher, and most likely some sort of extension for students. he only thing im sure of is that i imagnie the extension would take periodic screenshots and send it to the teacher. Only reason im asking is because im not sitting down and figuring out the details of this little adventure until friday, so hopefully maybe someone on here is a bit googly and have a few pointers.. Thanks

We decided not to. GAFE does everything we need...

Just had a quick search and the app doesn't exist on the iPad, only android devices... but.. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/uploadcam-camera-app-for-dropbox/id624658188?mt=8 give that a go, set up a Google Drive account and see how it works?

Hello! We are using 40+ ipads and we use Google Drive to store our images. I think from memory as well, there is a Google Camera app (but this might be android)... So it might mean you can tell all students to use the google camera (not the built in camera) and the images will upload straight to GDrive, so no need to periodically wipe...

Hey all and happy new year... Over the holidays we had a new VLAN and WLAN set up so we could have a transparent proxy for our chromebooks... It all seems to work perfectly fine except one issue... When you log into a chromebook (using an account under our "Google for apps for edu" domain, personal accounts DO NOT have this issue) and you try to do a google search, it says that you have a "redirect loop" [h=1]This webpage has a redirect loop[/h]Reload Hide details The webpage at http://www.google.co.uk/search?output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS&oq=ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS&gs_l=hp.3...273.273.0.379.2.2.0.0.0.0.320.320.3-1.1.0.msedr...0...1c.1.60.psy-ab..2.0.0.0.OMmGh9hTNYo&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.82001339,d.d24&biw=1280&bih=923&dpr=1&ech=1&psi=OUGYVLe8EIv8UvyLgagL.1419264344476.3&ei=OUGYVLe8EIv8UvyLgagL&emsg=NCSR&noj=1&ssui=on&safe=active&surl=1has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer. We are totally baffled. We have set up test users under our google domain and cleared them of all restrictions and settings but still no luck... An interesting thing as well is that it seems to show results for your search for about half a second, before you get the error. Which seems to imply that maybe we are getting the result back, but its being confused on the way back in? any ideas?

[ipad] Ipad video recording taking up too much space??
Zezima posted a topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Hello all! We are a school that have "gone Google" (trying to encourage use of google drive as much as possible) but we are finding that when the students make videos with the ipads, the files are coming out to 100mb+ for videos are arnt even 2 minutes long. This wouldn't matter, but when it comes to the end of the lessons for the kids to upload their videos to Google Drive, it goes VERY slow. Anyone know of a way to lower to quality of video recording on ipads? (ios 8)... I cant even find a free video recorder alternative anywhere which I thought should be easy to find. All the ones i find you either have to pay for it, or they have annoying gimicks ... any ideas?? :S Thanks -
Google Apps and Chromebook Awkward Questions
Zezima replied to dcwhitworth's topic in Cloud Services
We are a school which has recently "Gone Google" We have had chromebooks in the school for just over a year now and I have 50/50 mixed feelings abotu these little devices... Up until september we only had 30-50 chromebooks in school and all went swimmingly... We thought chromebooks were amazing and they really WERE all sunshine and flowers... However, since september we have had a few problems and struggled to resolve!! we are constantly have google drive connection issues with all the chromebooks, Support from google has been good but not helped us get any closer to solving. Also, we have found it difficult to find replacement parts such as keys/screens.... When these devices work... they REALLY work perfectly and life is so much easier... But, I feel like Chrome OS and chromebooks in general have little support, so you do find yourself a little lost when you run into issues... as troubleshooting can be awkward. Ive also found that people now EXPECT the chromebooks to run perfectly every time. People get use to chromebooks being fast boot-up/browsing... So be prepared to have people coming up to you saying "Ive waited at least a minute and its still not loading!" -.- -
We are having same problem... It seems that most of the kids have managed to click "create a new keychain" when they logged in which sorted out their problem... but some kids aren't even having the dialog box pop up now though and when they get to their desktop... it starts asking for keychain passwords without the option to create a new keychain... Will post here if we get anywhere with it.
