She's a professional wedding photographer. So yeah I'd say she's pretty good lol. I dunno what cute stuff? Um. Cats? I guess? She has thee of them. Teddy bears, but she's got a lot of them now, I worry it might seem a bit generic and not thought out?

Has she made her own bear? Shop, Explore & Play at Build-A-Bear Workshop Lots of adults do it!

 

Does she read?

No ideas for the children yet - perhaps I should mention that my sons are 27 and 25 and my daughter is 23 (so probably not lego)

Hm. Might be worth mentioning that myself, at 25, would much prefer something functional rather than something ornamental. Even if it's just a lamp designed to suit my interest (one of my favourite games, or something mythical like a dragon, or yggdrasil)

Yes. She does. But that's her and her husband's thing. They get a build a bear from everywhere they go on holiday.

 

Does she read?

Yes. But she owns a kindle fire HD. Part of the problem of buying my mum gifts, is that she buys everything she wants herself xD

Manicure? Pedicure? Random beauty treatment she wouldn't splash out on herself?

Piece of jewellery?

 

If she is like most mums though, all she really wants is to see you and spend time with you :)

 

I wouldn't buy my sons something ornamental although one got a picture painted by his sister for his birthday and he loved it.

All he wants for Christmas is a BB8 and I am not spending that sort of money :(

Mum, last I knew of, wears about £3,000 of jewellery 'casually'* (i.e. on a daily basis, not dolled up going out somewhere), and she's also fairly well provisioned in nail care to the point she was offered a job at a professional salon (she said she'll do her own nails, and friends nails for weddings, but as a job would bore the hell out of her) so I'd have no idea what to get. I know I'm sounding like a pain in the buttocks but this is exactly the reason I'm having trouble lol. I think a nail set would be a wonderful gift for her, because she does enjoy doing her own nails.. The problem is because she enjoys it she already owns one xD

I don't doubt it, and I do want to see her too :) But I'd still like to get her something.

Hm, yeah, bit expensive. See, personally I wouldn't like something like that for Christmas. It would make a cool ornament to sit on a desk, but if all I wanted was an ornament I'd spend much less on one that didn't move/etc. But the remote-controlled-ness would wear off fast for me and it would end up just sat there. So waste of money, to me, anyway. Maybe you kid would use it a lot. I can't say. But that price is a little steep.

 

* I make her sound like a snob, but it's mostly inheritance/closing down sales/etc. I don't think she's ever paid full price for any jewellery she owns, but she knows how to find a bargain.

This year for Christmas I would like either a clone of myself, or another technician, preferably one who doesn't celebrate Christmas, so that I can spend the entire holiday at home with my Wife and Son and not at work having 5 new copiers, Uniflow print management, a new internet connection and filtering installed. :(

(and I agree about the BB8 - I think he would be bored with it within a week. The pic is of a BB8 though and looks great

@Oaktech I thought you were term-time only? I would offer but as a pagan I do indeed celebrate the holiday season :)

I've not started yet, but to be fair my nan is the only one I really struggle to buy for. I'm always told to not worry about it as she won't know or remember but she knows at the time and I'm sure she's more aware than people give her credit for.

 

On that, as long as the 3 kiddies have their prezzies I'm less worried about everyone else.

Blocked here, but I'll check when I'm at home. I think her and Ian would enjoy something like that :)

I never think about days out/etc when it comes to presents, I always get stuck thinking of physical things.

MrwITch and I love to do things rather than clutter up the house with more stuff. To date we have done brewery tours, flyboarding, lorry driving, photography, gliding, formula ford racing, kitebuggying and afternoon teas!

That certainly is the case. Ian runs his own IT company and Mum is a professional wedding photographer. They're not exactly "loaded" but they're very comfortable. They go on holiday every year, for example. So yeah. They do tend to buy things they want/need there-and-then, so buying physical objects does get a bit difficult. Despite their wealth I still insist on repaying my debts to Mum though (even if I "don't have to") as a matter of principle.

I shall certainly keep 'event-based' presents in mind! :) Those are some great ideas.
