Really?! That's brilliant! My Virgin Media price has just gone from £20.50 to £28.25pcm. That's just for 30Mbps fibre broadband; I don't have a phone line or TV. I was going to call VM to 'renegotiate', but £12 - that sounds like a winner! Edit: I don't know how you managed to get it for that price, @sippo. I've just had a look on their website and, for me, it works out at £16.99pcm for line rental, with 4mb broadband free for 18 months then £9.99pcm. Plus I'd have to pay a £49.99 installation charge. MatthewL Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 With ADSL/FTTC alot of it depends on market areas as to what you pay. The village I used to be in was like £20 a month and if I came into town I could get it far cheaper.

Are you using a third party DSL modem along the lines of this or have you put their supplied router into Modem only mode?

When i joined plusnet fibre i was given a modem and a router. i just replaced the router as it was poor.

The word I missed was "Fibre" Fibre services use VDSL to connect to the local cabinet so your bog standard ADSL modem won't do you any good. I assume that Plusnet supply the same BT Openreach widget that I had when I was on BT Infinity? My brother in law has that box on TalkTalk, the poor sod I know that BT are now supplying the HomeHub 5 which has the VDSL modem built in, are other suppliers supplying AIO boxes as well now?
Jobos Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I'm with BT but thinking of moving to plusnet mainly due to price and I have to admit those plusnet prices do look attractive. So with that in mind I've got a couple of questions please. 1. Does plusnet throttle at all? I was with virgin before bt and their throttling was awful which was one of the reasons I moved to BT 2. How good is the plusnet filter? The BT filter does the job but it's not brilliant so hoping for something a little better.
MatthewL Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Your only throttled if you go over your usage (unless you are unlimited then no they dont). They allow you to run your own servers and you can request more IP's if you need them too. Not used the filter but not heard anything bad.
rich_tech Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 from my understanding of it, FTTC with plus net, they provide you a bog standard BT FTTC Modem and my parents have the awful Technicolor N wireless gateway which connects to the BT modem (its a pound shop router if there was such a thing) Am I right in my summation that you can replace the wifi router with your own device as far as I can see from the config on this, as there aren't any account details or anything that I can see on the gateway, just highlights the fact that you lose a port on the device for the connection of internet, so a 4 port router becomes a 3 effectively for my parents here.

detjo Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Ofcom should ban them from giving "download" speed in bits. Download speed is measured in bits, always has been. That would be like banning ppl from using Megabytes coz we use Giga/terabytes now.

bitznpcz Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Just switched to Plusnet from BT and got an extra 10mbps download speed. Had daily dropouts with the Home Hub 5 (probably dodgy DNS Server) and am now using a draytek 2760 with a ubiquiti AC-Pro AP (& Google DNS)
ChickenDhansak Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 We get switched over to Plusnet tomorrow from talktalk. They've supplied us with an identical 'Technicolor' brand router which works fine with talktalk so I'm guessing it should be ok with Plusnet
unixman_again Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I didn't use the Technicolor device supplied by Plusnet - reviews of them are not good - I use my trusty old Belkin. No problems using it in the 2 years I've been with Plusnet.

Didn't use the Technicolor router that they supplied initially, but I've just been sent a rebranded BT Homehub v5 and that seems pretty good for what it does.
Tesla Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Broadband Contract with sky runs out early april (well, the 12 month period), when me and OH moved in together we just went all in with sky (phone, tv and broadband) and it was the most convenient (and fairly cheap) option at the time. I will be shopping around this time however, and Plusnet does tempt me quite a lot.
fiza Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 My plusnet broadband has been down since Saturday morning. Raised a fault ticket yesterday but not fixed yet. Only had plusnet since December and this is the first issue.
