Ruler Connect

Can salamander do what "ruler classroom" and "ruler parent" does? as per this information sheet: http://ruler.co.uk/docs/ruler_classroom_product_sheet.pdf and this one http://ruler.co.uk/docs/ruler_parent_product_sheet.pdf

 

I know it can do what ruler connect does, as we're using it for all those features already. Interested in the possibility of showing a member of SLT (who loves office 365) what we could be using it for...

Just picking this up this year with prices etc for both products. The changes to Microsoft classroom have thrown me though, need to work out whats actually happened!!

I got SDS working with the Ruler connect free version and I must say its worked quite well eventually. The app crashes a bit when it thinks its still running and the license server does not work unless you run with admin privaledges for some reason.

 

Oh and don't use the older versions of the free ruler connect as found on their support link, use the latest .3 version. Otherwise it will create 500 classes from last year with no bulk way to delete

 

I've now got 500(from the correct year after upgrading to latest release) classes imported into Office 365 for use in Microsoft Teams for education and on the mailing lists. Teachers are impressed.

 

Price is 1,000 a year for the full version, but the SDS software is free, you just need to request it.

 

Its very cool to see students log into Teams for Edu and see all their classes automatically listed

Ok so we purchased the full version of ruler connect a few weeks ago now and have good success with it. Support is particularly good and the program works as it should. Its cheaper than salmandersoft as well from the quotes we got.

 

So far we have:

 

- Uploaded all student photos to their office 365 accounts

- Uploaded all student and staff timetables to their office 365 calendars as a sub calendar

- Fixed all student emails in Sims (we had some data entry errors)

- Got SDS syncing working

- Added distribution lists for all regular school classes

- Created special custom distribution lists for tutor groups

- Re-licensed all students to the "Office 365 A1 Plus for students" plan only

- Removed Yammer from student profiles

- Disabled students from creating groups

 

For the cost we are paying, I think that is pretty impressive and I would recommend it to anyone!

 

Oh and yes we tested Salamandersoft as well but their current version could not use the email from sims as it was in the "home" but not "work" field. This was a blocker for getting it working and they had no ETA on a fix for that so didn't get any further.

We've used Ruler for over a couple of years, and have got them to implement quite a few things in the product.

 

It's good once the people admitting students/staff remember the email bit!

Has anyone implemented this and is willing to do a show & tell? Preferably in the East Anglia region.

We've had it for a year but not renewing - wasn't the best system with lots of initial issues getting it set up and working fully.

What's the underlying protocol being used by this and Salamander soft?

 

Also is RULER an iCal calendar?
