Just a heads up, check if the Death on the policy covers murder or death as a result of a terrorist attack. Many do not.

Not sure you will as they are kind of 2 different things, Health related and circumstances related. Personally I would talk to Legal and General as we got health from them and they have been brilliant with some recent issues I have had. I have also seen looking around that some other companies are very specific about what they cover, even if it doesn't make sense. So talk to them about what you want and they will be able to advise you.

Disclaimer: I do not nor ever have worked for L&G but have had fantastic service from them.

You might want to check how much your employer will give your next of kin if you die - it is often called Death in Service Benefit

I was looking at this several years ago and discovered that the money she would have got was way more than the mortgage so the life cover that I needed was far less than I thought

just a thought

I had it once... Now I have 2 policies because it would appear that the insurance industry thought it was just too much like good value.

All of them are with Legal and General, but I have one policy for Critical illness and Life, which pays out the amount I am covered for (the remaining cost of my mortgage, plus funeral expenses plus a little bit) if I am diagnosed with a terminal or permanent life limiting condition or I snuff it. I then have another which pays the mortgage only for short term chronic illness, accidents, and redundancy.

Read the small print on that one the exclusions are usually brilliant for the terminal / life limiting condition clause as having read some once I was so basically you need to be told you have 1 month to live not this is terminal you may live another 50 years.

Yeah, I know! I've moved providers twice as the Ts&Cs became significantly less favourable. My current policy is about as generous as the insurance industry gets. It now covers some types of cancer and degenerative illnesses such as MS and MND from the moment of diagnosis which my old policy did not. Having watched my ex's parents struggle when one became too ill to work, but not ill enough for the insurance to kick in, I made sure it wouldn't happen to me.
