got bored over the weekend and started persona 5 royal earlier than i planned (was planning to play it over Christmas) it does seem different enough to the base game (that said i paid "25 for it so thats about the cost of a decent dlc) but ive just "completed" the 1st dungeon and only just got the training wheels off (so you couldnt go buy food/books etc). It looks better than i remember it doing and there are some new ways to go in the dungeon and new enemies and sort of unlimited ammo so i actually use the guns now rather than saving them for a last resort). Its surprising how many random monsters i can remember type weaknesses for

Following on from @simpsonj mention of Kerbal Space Program in another thread. No, I don't think he is aware of this one. Looks to be a real Xmas present candidate. Between the PC download version and the Steam version, is there any advantage of one over the other?

I haven't played KSP in a long time but the Steam version used to basically just be the same as the non-steam version. You could just go into the game folder and launch/mod it directly from there. It just used Steam for launching and updates, so maybe better to get the steam version.

It is a brilliant game and has a massive modding community which really expands what you can do with it.

I really need to play it again soon..

Finally finished Witcher 3 (GOTY). Loved it but, if anything, it was too big. Not sure of the point of the gift Regis leaves you at the end of Blood and Wine as there seems to be little use for it and gutted that I blew it with Triss.

Gonna pick something a bit less expansive next, methinks.

Did anyone catch any of the E3 showcases over the weekend? There were quite a few big announcements in the Xbox/Bethesda presentation yesterday!

Bits and pieces.

Summer Gaming Show (Gamesfest or whatever) confirmed that Elden Ring still exists and might be coming January 2021.

There were some cool looking things out of the MS confrence, but I don't understand why they'd give dates for Starfield and STLAKER (both provisionally next year), but not Halo (supposedly Nov/Dec this year).

Lake and 12 Minutes both looked really interesting and are both late summer releases.

It feels like everyone's holding off committing their Q4 releases for some reason.

I've been reading into the information that 343 Industries have released alongside the trailer for Halo Infinite - It sounds like they will be doing a similar thing to what they did with the Master Chief Collection, with several testing flights that are sent out to "Halo Insiders". I imagine the release date will depend on what is flagged from that.

I've played a Lake playtest, it's a really nice and relaxing game!

Forza Horizon 5's graphics look mind-blowing, I can't wait for my PC to explode playing that...

I'm very much looking forward to The Outer Worlds 2, I'm glad it's getting a sequel.

The game they ended on, Redfall, looks intriguing too!

The game engine that runs Forza Horizon 5 will also be used for the new Fable game

However this was the biggest surprise for me. Rare managed to keep this completely secret for 18 months

Because Halo is a massive, massive hype train they've already had to delay once. Starfield is a new IP that they can afford to delay (though I get the feeling they're probably targeting an earlier finish and have dated so far out so it will release on time) and Stalker 2 was a cult hit last time, so they can afford to date it and delay it if needs be.

Halo Infinite has already had one delay, so they're not dating it beyond a release window to allow them some flexibility. Remember the Cyberpunk 3 week delay furore?

True, and I guess until the bigger titles get pinned down (or postponed to next year) the smaller devs will hold off rather than risk releasing the same day or just after one of the big AAAs.

Also, whilst I play Halo for the story, I think 90% of people play it for the multiplayer primarily - and as it'll be free to play now, the whole "I've paid for this, give me what I paid for" element is gone. Hell, even the single player is "free to play" if you're already paying for Game Pass (yeah, i know its not free, but you just get it for no extra) So it's probably sensible to not date it exactly.

Only issue I have is, is that I can't convince my friends to play anyhting but Warzone and FIFA two games I'm throughly sick of now. Just those two in rotation. Nothing else ever.

I can't even convince them that the extra £3 a month for 150 games on demand is worth it, frankly! They're cumudgeonly sticking to Xbox Live Gold. I'm hoping Among Us and Party Animals might wedge them out of their mediocrity.

This is my friend group too, but with Apex Legends. I fell out of it ages ago, and yet I still have to listen to them playing it on Discord... I've managed to pull one of them away from Apex with co-op SnowRunner, somehow!

Not seen it myself but both my lads have been watching all the E3 live streams.

Apparently xbox/bethesda has been pretty much the only things of interested. They said everything else has been really underwhelming/nothing special. Maybe a couple of interesting indie things but nothing to really get excited about.

The only thing they mentioned that was interesting about the Nintendo spot was a monster hunter game set up to be a bit like Pokemon but the rest was "Meh".

Use to play Ghost Recon on PC years ago and was part of a clan and was pretty good even though I say so myself.

Not played any PC games in over 10 years so thought I would download Steam and install CS:GO and have discovered I suck big time!!

Reflexes are like treacle!! - even getting took out by bots!!! BOTS!!! Oh the shame :D

Just finished Mass Effect 3. Wow! There was a lot of pollen in the air, or something...

Mass Effect is one of my favourite series of games, I've been playing through the Legendary Edition myself. I blitzed through Mass Effect 1 and 2 but I'm taking my time with Mass Effect 3 for some reason!

I'm playing as a female Engineer this time around - It's completely different to what I'd normally pick (Vanguard or another class with Biotics) but the tech combos in ME3 make it all worth it. I also started again from ME1 to try an Adept class character.

I'm almost tempted to get the LE and go for a replay, but I've got a huge backlog. Maybe when it drops to a silly price.

Even Mme LeMarchand was impressed, and expressed interest in reading a novelisation (unfortunately the novelisations are "in the world of"). I'd love a TV series. Hope the Henry Cavill thing wasn't just him having a laugh.

The Mass Effect novelisations are pretty good and the first 3 (the ones written by Karpyshyn) act as a sort-of-prequel to each game.

If there is a live action TV show/film (I hope the Cavell thing is true) I see it being another story "in the world of" rather than a direct adaptation of the game - As much as I'd like to see someone try, I don't see a straight up "Sheppard's story from the games" film/TV series being well received. Given how branching the game story is what version do you even choose?

FYI, there is a James Vega backstory animated film.

"In the world of" type things are all I want for Mass Effect, I wouldn't want them to regurgitate the same story when the universe is so rich. I'd also love more ME games like Andromeda - In universe but not following the same story (although ME: Andromeda itself was a bit of a mixed bag, the gameplay was great).

The choices I made, obviously! ;) (Unless they went full "Bandersnatch") As ME3 is still fresh in my mind, I'd say that the romance options could probably be eliminated (though they did seem to want you to choose Liara) and it makes most dramatic sense to save/recruit as many of the races as possible for the final conflict. I think the "synthesis" ending makes most sense, but could be swayed. I'd really like to see the existing main story as the conclusion really belongs to Shepard and it would be a bit anticlimactic to have the ending "off camera". "In Universe" stuff would also be of interest, but the main story is of most interest to me.

I read that, but the only reason I kept using James as a squad mate was due to my play style. Found him a bit annoying.

You brave soul! James permanently stays on the Normandy as soon as I have someone else to take his place...

I promised myself I wasn't going to buy the Legendary Edition.....

So, just recently got the Platinum for the LE Version of ME1, and now working towards the Platinum for ME2...

Nice! How tricky is doing that with each ME game? Since I've been on PC, I've not really looked into achievements or trophies...

Do you need to do multiple runs with different classes?

To be fair it's not too bad - everything can be gotten in a single playthrough (aside from a minor second dive into ME3 for one trophy).

All of the "Use x power n times" are just for you as the player activating the power - even if the caster isn't Shepherd, so I'm happy just running through as an Engineer.

I've seen issues reported with the "complete the majority of the game" in ME1, but apparently that can be forced by going back to the last save, finishing another sidequest, then the last mission again. That one pinged for me a LOT later than I expected as I finished almost every sidequest before Virmire (so I finished the rest of them off after).
