well finished zero dawn got all bar about 6 trophies that just dont look fun. really enjoyed it and cant wait for the dlc later in the year. gone back to playing botw in master mode and not died yet but only done 1 shrine

 

It grew on you then?

 

 

 

Until Dawn is the Free PS Plus content this month, have downloaded, started playing last night.

 

Seems good, generally tend to struggle with decision making type games as i always want to go back and see what else could have happened, though! (One of the reasons i stopped playing Fallout 4...)

For saying it's a 'pick your story' game - this is actually pretty damn good. Let me know how many survive with your first run through.

Matt already hates Mike. That's the only thing I have noticed particularly that may have an obvious outcome later on....We shall see!

I've been incredibly obsessed with PUBG (Player Unknown's Battlegrounds) for the past month now. It's still in early access but has enough to keep me interested and the development so far has been excellent. (I know, I know.. don't get too excited as we've all seen it before devs dropping the game as soon as the $$$ is in but still) In it's current state patches are frequently every week and a monthly update comes around with new content. The future of the game shows new maps and modes, with some already teased in development.

 

The multiplayer game starts with you and 99 other players parachuting from a plane onto a 8km2 map where you need to scavenge for weapons and equipment in order to fight to be the last one standing at the end of the game. It offers some intense moments of excitement, frustration, and fear as you climb to the top and with the ability to play in squads up to 4 I really see it sticking around for some time. It's currently #1 streamed on twitch and #1 in the steam sales. There are some player customization options but these are limited for the time being, and this may fund the games development after the release.

 

With all that said, I had a shocking time on my driving test but came back to my 15th PUBG win last night in an exciting 11-kill game and wondered if anyone else had an interest this game?

I've had soooooo many people telling me to buy it. I'm just very skeptical. When you say 'you and 99 others', can you have a pre-made party parachuting in, or is it basically a FFA?

You can have squads, duos or solos. If you go solo, you're against all solo people, if you play duo it's only groups of two. If you go squads then its groups of 3 or 4.

 

....but if you're really brave you can queue squad as a solo, and be put into a group. Never goes well though.

It's you and 99 others, but those 99 others may or may not be in teams.

I've been in games where my ending score was out of 30, which means the majority of people were in 3-or-4-stacks. I think they've added some kind of matchmaking/balancing now (as it used to always be a score out of around 70) that puts teams against teams and solo's against solo's.

 

Your choices are:

Solo - Just you

Duo - You and one other nerd

Squad - You and two other nerds, +1 randomly assigned randomer*

Squad - You and two other nerds, no randomer assigned*

Squad - You and three other nerds**

 

* You can turn off whether you get a random dood or not.

** Nerds is not meant to be an insult, it just seems to be what me and my friends refer to other players as.. "Nerd spotted, 230, just gone behind the big building!" etc

I usually do solo while waiting for friends, but only because I have a lot on my list playing it right now. I still enjoy it, if anything it's more intense on your own... with all the silence.... and then suddenly

TIP TAP TAP *creak* TAP on the stairs...

Starting to think we need an EduGeek Discord server for stuff like this.

I know we have a TS, and I know I've badmouthed Discord in the past, but I'm slowly coming around to the idea that it can be useful in a planning/organisation way.

(Still think the UI could do with some work, though..)

I also have PUBG, and while I will admit it's good fun. I found the novelty wore off pretty quick. I now find the game play quite stale and repetitive unless I'm with a squad of guys and just run around without a care in the world. Hoping the new map helps mixes things up a little.

Discord does sound like it would be useful. Considering i have it and never use it.

We already have a Discord server. I'll get the details when I'm at home.

 

Why not use the TeamSpeak server though? Edugeek are kindly paying for it... http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gaming/167021-edugeek-teamspeak-server-details.html

 

I find Discord works well as a voice client, but it tries to 'do too much'. It combines a voice client like Teamspeak or Mumble with chat/image/etc capabilities of Slack and a friends/contact list of Skype, most of which I don't need usually. And the fact that all your servers are listed, and you'll show as online to all of them, personally bothers me. I don't like that. I want to just connect to 1 server and be online on 1 server, I don't see the need for people on other servers that I'm not paying attention to being able to contact me.

 

That being said, Discord's chat bit is reasonably useful if somebody wants to post up, say, "PUBG later? I'll be on from about 6." and then other people see it if they fire up Discord later on in the day.

I think Discord is much more focussed around 'building a community' than it is 'being a VOIP client'. I dunno, maybe I'm old fashioned, but what's so bad about using a forum? :cool:

Well it could be anything from 1 minute to an hour,

 

If you die you die, i once jumped out the plane and i died before i landed (own fault) hence game was only a minute.

 

On the game i've come 3rd it took around 30mins.

 

What happens is the map slowly gets smaller so players are pushed together, hence speeding the game up and stop people camping!

More or less, yeah. Average game is about fifteen minutes (assuming you don't get yourself any winner winner chicken dinner), but if your entire squad dies you get to leave and re-queue. (Of course, you can leave earlier, but I don't think you get points if you leave early)

 

The playable area shrinks every five* minutes, until it's a tiny little zone. If you're outside the playable area you take gradual damage until you're back inside, or you die. The damage starts off quite weak but progressively gets more and more as the game goes on. So basically over time it forces everybody into the same poxy little area and forces you to fight. Turtling stops being a thing after about 6-8 minutes.

 

* There's about two minutes of 'the zone is actively shrinking' and about three minutes of 'the zone will shrink in..' time

What do you mean, re-subbed? The only gym I've ever been inside was in pokemon!

I love how pretty much nobody refers to it as 'winning' in PUBG, it's just 'chicken dinner' :D
