Popular Post MrMat Posted May 14, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 14, 2015 (edited) Just in case any of you SIMS folks missed this one (we did and have been bombarded with calls about it this morning!). The error occurs whenever you try and use the date picker/calender function within SIMS (Attendance reporting, adding pupils etc etc). [h=1]Microsoft Security Patch causing issues with SIMS7 Date Picker[/h]We have been made aware that after a Microsoft .net Framework Security Patch (3023224) the SIMS .net Date Picker is crashing the SIMS application. 13/05/2015 What does this mean? After the installation of Microsoft Security Patch 3023224 as part of a Windows Update, the SIMS .net Date Picker in many of the SIMS windows crashes the user out of SIMS. Who will be affected? Any computer where SIMS .net is installed and this specific Windows Security Patch has been applied by Windows Update. Who will NOT be affected? Any computer where this Windows Security Patch has NOT been installed, or, has subsequently been uninstalled. How are we fixing this? We are looking into this as a matter of urgency and will update this Hot Topic as soon as we have any further information. Is there a workaround? Yes, at this time users can uninstall Windows Security Patch 3023224. If you have any questions... If you need further advice regarding how this may impact your use of SIMS, please contact the SIMS Service Desk in the first instance. https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/hot-topics/SIMS7-Date-Picker/ Edited May 14, 2015 by MrMat 24
markwilfan Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 ** Shakes fist at MS *** Thanks MrMat was 10th in the queue on the SIMS helpdesk when I read this. Anybody found which update it is for Win 8.1 ???? This update doesn't seem to apply to Win 8.1 but it still happens
markwilfan Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Even stranger our Win 7 devices do not have this patch either hmmmm 1
Popular Post markwilfan Posted May 14, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 14, 2015 As a powershell sidenote this will help anybody find if a remote machine has an update Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_QuickFixEngineering -ComputerName COMPUTERNAME -Property HotFixId -filter "HotFixID = 'KB3023224'" obvs change computername and kb number to suit 5
Darth Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Another work around is to enter the date manually, so you don't need to uninstall the patch. 2
jimbojames136 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Possible the update for windows 8.1 is KB3023222. This is an update waiting for me to install, and my SIMS is still fine.
sparkeh Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Another work around is to enter the date manually, so you don't need to uninstall the patch. We currently doing this. Our LA helpdesk was bombarded with calls :S
IrritableTech Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 (edited) Spent an hour this morning chasing around with this. Found the DotNet4.5 security update causing the issue about fifteen minutes ago. Should have come here first...! If it is a known bug, I do wish they'd link that article to the fault code - 1829-4733-7100 Would be handy @PhilNeal? Edited May 14, 2015 by IrritableTech
Boredguy Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I got in nice and early when one of our staff mentioned the issue this morning... there was not even a queue on the capita helpdesk but we're using the manual entry of date for now as that's easier than removing the update just for WSUS to put it back on again
markwilfan Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Another work around is to enter the date manually, so you don't need to uninstall the patch. exactly what i just found Just spoke to capita support and the software engineers are still investigating the cause as removing the above patch doesn't work for everybody. Entering the date is the workaround
markwilfan Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Possible the update for windows 8.1 is KB3023222. This is an update waiting for me to install, and my SIMS is still fine. This works BTW. Removing KB3023222 for Win 8.1
clockend25 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Been dealing with this today. Mostly our admin staff who got the update last night; the practice our teaching staff have of only shutting down their laptops every leap year has worked in their favour. 1
speckytecky Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Ran out some MS updates this morning to some of our workstations and one Admin user on a SIMS W7 workstation is reporting an error 1829-4733-7100 Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object. System Invalid Operator Exception. Not happening on workstations that haven't had the MS updates. Rang CAPITA Support - 10th in the queue. Anyone else having similar issues?
Boredguy Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 (edited) Yes there is an issue with the latest .Net framework that killed the calendar button. Enter the date manually. Here is the link to the other thread regarding this issue. Edited May 14, 2015 by Boredguy 1
timbo343 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Just had this through from my admin team and thought I would share which has come from our LEA support team. THIS ERROR IS INTENDED FOR SCHOOLS WHO USE THE CAPITA SIMS SOFTWARE AND IS NOT RELEVANT TO ANY OTHER MIS SOFTWARE. We have been made aware of a fault code which is appearing in various areas of the SIMS MIS system since Microsoft released an automatic update which may have been implemented on school’s servers overnight. The error manifests as a number (1829-4733-7100) specifically when users who are entering data select any drop down date box in SIMS and will close down your SIMS software without notice. Capita are aware of the issue and are working on a resolution as a matter of urgency. In the meantime, schools are being asked to enter any dates manually and not use the drop down boxes. Hope this helps anyone explain any recent problems since Tuesday.

localzuk Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I've disabled our rollout of the latest Windows updates temporarily, until the issue is resolved. Hopefully Capita will have a fix out relatively quickly!!
vikpaw Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 (edited) There were a few threads regarding this so I've merged and will sticky. Worth a re-read of the full thread as there is some useful info, such as a workaround by typing the date in manually. Edited May 15, 2015 by vikpaw
Nursallj Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Hi All not getting any joy for are LA on this and Captia just say speak to your LA , the on screen calender selection in SIMS is not loading and when some user get a bomb out and and error when the click the icon, anyone give tips to fix this as not getting anywhere with support
Boredguy Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 There is a couple of threads already merged for this, but it was a .Net security update and Capita are trying to write a patch but it's been 2 days so far. Oh official work around is manually type in the date.

Nursallj Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 thank why did capita not just tell me that i figured the work round anyway :-(
Boredguy Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Well Capita have had the message as a hot topic on their My Account site since Wednesday when the issue arose so you would have thought the support team you dealt with might have been aware of it. 1
PhilNeal Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Support units prefer schools to call them rather than us! 1
