MattMitchell Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 As well as the manual method, I'd swear blind that clicking on the month to "zoom" in/out of the calendar worked OK for me. Using the arrows to change month caused the crash on my machine
MrMat Posted May 15, 2015 Author Posted May 15, 2015 UPDATES! Still ongoing: Update 15/05/2015 13:20 Testing this morning has revealed that the amended files need to handle the changes in the .net Framework security update, are present in more than one location in SIMS. Other functionality such as Partnership Exchange could be affected if further testing is not carried out. To this end, it is our intention to continue to test, review and amend our solution until we are confident that rolling out this fix to all customers will not impact on other areas of the SIMS suite of software. This will of course delay the possibility of any patch today, but we will update you on Monday with progress made over the weekend. We hope that customers will appreciate this level of testing and checking in light of our lessons learnt in dealing with other recent issues in our products. Update 15/05/2015 09:15 Escalation have written a patch which updates the SIMS .net code so the date picker will no longer cause a crash. This is currently being tested and we hope to make this available to customers as soon as possible. We would like to reiterate that customers can still work around this issue by manually typing the date into the date field, rather than using the calendar control button to pick the date. We apologise for the inconvenience caused, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries or concerns around this. Update 14/05/2015 11:00 Development and testing is still in process for developing a solution for this issue. This notification will be updated as soon as we have more news. 1
speckytecky Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 (edited) This issue seems to be running deeper in my school. We have a dedicated 64 bit Windows 2008 R2 Server and the key Administration Staff have profiles to this Server. On Tuesday our excellent Capita Support guy did a remote session and applied al the latest SIMS updates across our Domain. Wednesday morning the Server was restarted early in the day (0615 hours) post Micsrosoft Updates. Also the relevant workstations had picked up updates from the WSUS. Everything worked fine and dandy for at least 3 hours with users logged on then first one lady reported that she was getting this Fault described in this thread when trying to add data to the behaviour section for a student. Next within minutes two other users of this staff group complained they had lost both Internet and desktop. Checking the infrastructure and other users on the domain it was quickly apparent this was isolated to this user group. Logging on to one of the workstations with my staff user account confirmed this. About half an hour later after switching the machines off and on again they were able to restore normal work with desktop and Internet access restored. Thought no more about it. Until today! My day off and I received an urgent message from my line manager that the issue had struck again. With a message Local Area Connection doesnt have a valid IP configuration. Suggested Shutdown and restart. This carried out with a further Windows Security warning: detected a possible attempt to compromise security....& please ensure that you can contact the server that authenticated you. User logged on but access issues and lack of desktop continued. SIMS Server Restarted user logged on still with same issues. We seem to be stuck with this issue now - any suggestions as to what's going on please? Primary bad time to post this I expect if I wanted an answer! ITGURU Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 No doubt it will be Capita blaming Microsoft for crashing their buggy software, rather than the other way round! SIMS.net is bloat ware and consumes far too many resources.
Sir Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Speckteky, are you using the same server for your sqlsims and ad authentication/ dc?
speckytecky Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 (edited) Nope, SIMS is set up on a separate 64 bit Windows Server 2008 R2 box that does just that, plus a little bit of Print server it's also acting as a second DC. DNS, DHCP and all the other relevant services are on its older sister which is running 32 bit Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition. No errors in DHCP. The blip yesterday was put down by the Office staff as due to the heavy rain. Additionally one of them tells me that fairly regularly she has disappearing icons issues at about the time the students mass log on but apparently it then all comes back on its own. Speckteky, are you using the same server for your sqlsims and ad authentication/ dc? Edited May 15, 2015 by speckytecky
speckytecky Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I have now up a new user in the Office Staff user Group. Logged on to the machine that's most heavily hit by this issue and all seemed to be ok. Logged on with Administrator rights during the day the machine was stable whilst I carried out both a Sophos AV scan - clean and a MalwareBytes scan - a few minor registry hijacks quarantined. The User Group pick up their profile from a logon.bat and their home directory lives on the SIMS Server.
rich_tech Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 *pre-emptively declines that update to avoid a massive headache if it went curriculum wide*
Darth Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Update from SIMS about this, going to wait for SOLUS3 to do it's magic! https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/hot-topics/SIMS7-Date-Picker/ "Update 18/05/2015 17:00 The Workstation package has now been released on SOLUS3 and is also available as a stand alone workstation patch. Information on how to download and apply this patch is available here" 3
linkazoid Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Will it automagically show up in SOLUS3 or does it need to be downloaded from the link in the article and added manually to SOLUS and deployed from there?
timbo343 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 (edited) @PhilNeal Do you know if this is going to be included in a later version of SIMS? The reason why I ask is we have just about finished creating our images for Summer so would need to install this bit of software on machines with SIMS once we have deployed the image. Is there a way of packing up the exe to an msi? Edited May 19, 2015 by timbo343
timbo343 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Anyone tried it yet? Patch works fine. Machine just needs a restart 1
Boredguy Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I've installed it on a couple of stations manually... waiting for the test users to confirm it's working, then have to decide how I want to get the 2 files onto all of the workstations since it's not deployable via S3 yet.
madurham Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 (edited) Does anyone know what the hotfix ID is on 2012 2008R2? Or what it is called? We've only got the problem on our thin clients and none of the servers have either KB3023224 or KB3023222 installed. EDIT: Wrong OS. Edited May 19, 2015 by madurham
vikpaw Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 @madurham - 3023224 info: This article applies to the following: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 when used with: Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 Windows Vista Service Pack 2 [*]Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 when used with: Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 Windows Vista Service Pack 2 [*]Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 when used with: Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 Windows Vista Service Pack 2 I'm guessing you must have SP2 or SP1 at least.. It was in our pending list for workstations, and i just got the NM to remove it, else it would have been enforced. 1
Theldron Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Anyone else being taken to a "No result found...." page when they click on the download patch here link?
vikpaw Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 No, it should take you to this search results page here https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/search/all?q=RESOURCEID-1-2965# From there at the bottom right, assuming your My Account (!) works okay, there is a Word download which then had links in it.
IrritableTech Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Anyone else being taken to a "No result found...." page when they click on the download patch here link? It's daft, but look a bit lower to the right - it's a word document.
Boredguy Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Solus 3 has just e-mailed me in the last half hour to say that it has downloaded the Date Selector patch, so that's now scheduled for install in the morning. And yes I found it funny on the website that the document was in the bottom right corner of the resource page and not in the main pane where the resource id was. Oh well.
ianriley1986 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Installed the patch this morning on a workstation with the issue, didn't even need a restart, worked straight away.
