And, yes, we give our kids mobile phones to hold by their brains, with wireless enabled, yet join the emotion with wifi in schools.

 

As far as I am aware very few kids use their mobiles as phones. They stare at the screen constantly and then look at you with incredulity if you suggest that making a phone call may be more effective.

Soo, after the fun event of the ban WiFi in School poster, appeared at the front of our school. Coincidentally a this appeared in the local paper.

 

A BUSINESSMAN is on a mission to make people aware of an invisible health danger. Martin Kingsbury, from Braintree, wants Wifi to be banned in schools up and down the country, to prevent harm being caused by electromagnetic radiation.

He said: “Someone came to me three years ago and told me about it. At first I thought it was another scare story.

“Then I spent a bit of time and did a bit of research. I started to see things that could not be disputed.

“The man made radiation has increased hundreds of times in the last thirty years.”

Many claim that exposure to electromagnetic radiation can cause people to develop Electro-Hypersensitivity – symptoms can include dizziness, headaches and sleep disturbance.

Mr Kingsbury, who owns Solar Power GB Ltd, is a member of Geovital Academy UK and got involved with the worldwide No Wifi in Schools campaign on July 31 by distributing posters across the district.

Countries such as Israel and France have already introduced Wi-Fi bands around children of a young age and Mr Kingsbury wants to see the UK government take a strong stance against electromagnetic radiation.

Mr Kingsbury said: “The problem is no one knows the information is out there.

“People need to be aware of the problems and then it is up to them what they do. But at least then they are given the opportunity to make small changes.

“I would like to see all Wifi to be removed from schools and people made aware of the harmful effects from modern technology - for people with children it is so important.”

In all fairness, sunburn does increase the risk of melanoma, so..

 

I think, in all fairness, sunlight can be used as a reasonable counter-argument. Sunlight includes radiation, but the radiation is considered safe, and where it does cause a problem, we can take steps to avoid it (sunblock) rather than outright ban it.

I know there's a lot of inaccurate science being bandied about and I too shudder ever time there's the latest anti wifi story.

 

However, radiation occurs in a huge range of wavelengths and some are considerably more harmful than others.

 

Naturally they're all there, but usually in such small quantities that they don't harm you. Some need special intervention to prevent harm... e.g. by applying sunscreen.

 

Just trying to counter their arguments by saying there's all sorts of radiation around you all the time, as some of you appear to be doing, is as ridiculous as they are.

 

The very specific wavelengths of wifi radiation are around all the time in many, but not all, places. It's that radiation that people need to use in their arguments and not all the others.

That's the point, to frame their silly argument in the same terms as my silly argument. If they want to try to use science in their argument they have to up their game.

Part of the problem is that there is no evidence that the radiation involved is harmful but that isn't to say that there may not be an issue.

 

When we review the risk we assess it as low, but we *have* to assess it and review that on a regular basis.

 

The problem you have then is that this brigade could take that as "so you think there might be a problem? Turn it all off then!" as in so doing missing the point of managing risk.

 

The phrases to use are things like, "at this point there have been no recommendations from official sources that schools should turn off their wireless networks, and no instructions to take further action. We regularly review all relevant advice from official sources and take action where required."

 

Those who as hell bent of using poor research or pseudo-science will continue but counter with real science rather than ridicule.
