I have had to remove the app entirely, as it constantly drained my battery and I was getting so little of the news I wanted to read it was pointless. Their new site is responsive, but to do that, they've made it sparse and plain. Not a fan.

synaesthesia Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I hate it. Turned it off when I tried it a couple of weeks ago, hoping it wouldn't be forced on us soon. As has been said, no clear definition between areas, just too damn bright.

If I do a "center column" site like that, I usually go with about 4:1 or 3:1 ratio of content to space. However, the main site needs to have relatively low amount of "white space" too, else it all just looks too white.

However, the main site needs to have relatively low amount of "white space" too, else it all just looks too white. well a quick bit of canvas resize in paint.net says that it uses about 60% of teh screen width with a large chunk of that taken up by "you might also like" stuff (re-sized from 1680 to 1008)

unixman_again Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 It's pretty typical for a BBC IT project - something is working fine so they fix it and it becomes worse. I used to like the original blue news site and since they changed this, each incarnation has become harder to navigate and slower to load. At tech_guy pointed out, it is more clicks to get you your local news. This feature reminds me of listening to BBC4 programs on iPlayer. It used to be 3 clicks to get to any program. After the last upgrade, it went to 7 clicks, although they have listened to user feedback and reduced it to 6.

The new app is terrible so its gone. Not too fussed about the new site to be honest. Its ok, not great but ok. There's too much unrelated stuff cluttering the page.

rich_tech Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I don't care for it at all myself, it was functional and no nonsense, now its too bright as others echoed and less defined, I gave feedback to that effect too I hate it when they fix stuff that isnt broken, as the old adage goes
