Dos_Box Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I've been using the new format for a couple of weeks now and find certain parts annoying, especially on a tablet when an innocent touch of the screen will swipe away part of what you are reading. Also a bit irked that I can't find a link to the 'Have your say' section in the menus which you can go to via the old link: Have Your Say - BBC News and it's promoting the new site layout!
Vasriel Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 The way I have my laptop setup in the office with two monitors, the majority of my applications are not running maximised. This is giving me a problem with the pictures on a news item being displayed in full size. Did not get this issue on the old website.

ZeroHour Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 but surely its possible to use more than 60% of the screen as that just means i need to scroll for no reason when like that its almost all text Yeah I just know designers always hate it because things are not pixel perfect without a lot of work. 16:9 full width is fine but I would like a bit of intelligence for 21:9, its all stuff we are considering now while developing the new site. I do think if you have the space it should be used but wisely.
sonofsanta Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 The problem with filling the full width is that it becomes harder to track between lines - i.e. you get to the end of one line, go back to the left and your eye can't pick the correct line, so you skip ahead too far or repeat a line. I think the sweet spot is between 70 - 120 characters or something. The real problem is that 16:9 monitors are rubbish and we should all be able to have 16:10 all the time always, but the market doesn't agree with me
