Shirt and Tie in term time unless ive got a big job on then its the casual stuff. I tend to wear either jeans, or if lots of work on my knees or really grubby stuff I then wear my workwear pants with about 1000000000 pockets to loose tools in, I even found a Punch Down tool in them the other day that I lost months ago! Thats how big and many pockets they have.

 

As for piercings, I find they seem to be a no no on male staff in schools, most i've been in don't seem to either allow or the male staff don't wear them, and thats more "standard" ones EG ears over something a bit more "trendy" EG Flesh Tunnels etc

black jeans, long t-shirts or jumpers, never shirt and tie.

 

Formal business wear is shirt, trousers and tie for men

and taylored/business trousers/skirt and blouse or top designed to be worn under a suit for women.

 

If you have been told to wear shirt+tie but the same standard of formal dress is not being applied to women then I would reccomend collecting some evidence and getting a union rep involved.

I think having to wear shirt & tie is a bit OTT for technicians - even the police don't have to wear that now! (most police forces have black T-shirts and combat trousers).

I'd also say wearing a tie could be a health and safety risk - moving components etc.

 

I usually wore jeans and a shirt (cheapo ones from Tesco - 2 for a tenner or something similar!)

Smart trousers, shoes and shirt here. No ties needed by anyone.

 

the teaching staff tend to wear a variety of things. Yesterday a staff member was wearing smart trousers and top, today she's in trackies and tshirt. For the female staff it seems they can wear whatever they like. The younger NQTs tend to wear smart skirts and tops, the more"senior" female staff wear whatever they feel like. One such "senior" member likes to wear short skirts and thighhigh boots :? 8O not so good!

 

The male staff (all 4 of us ) always wear shirts (+smart jumpers now its cold!) though 1 of the 2 male teachers tends to wear polo shirt + jeans (then again on Monday he was in a full suit, so who knows!).

 

I've also seen the deputy head in a school-logo fleecey thing. Think they didnt take off here, perhaps staff didnt want them. Then again, there doesn't seem to be that much of a dress code for the pupils either!

 

I think that as long as its not deemed inappropriate (i.e. rude tshirts or showing too much skin on the ladies' side) then its generally OK to wear what you like here. On a few odd days I've worn trainers and no-one's said anything. On training days / half terms etc. we can wear what we like (within good reason - no KISS outfits )

 

After 5 months of wearing smart shirts etc. every day, it might be more noticable if one of us suddenly turned up in jeans and a tshirt. Personally, I would prefer to wear an shirt and look smart, even if the teacher's dont have to

Staff dress respectably...thats about it. I wear a shirt and smart black jeans with black shoes.

 

Steve used to do the whole suit thing, but after 3 weeks of dust he went the same way.

 

Ties are only a formal occasion thing...I HATE having dangly things around machinery.

I normally in smart trouser or smart black jeans plus shirt with no tie term time.

 

Holidays anything goes.

 

At a previous school I once wore an FCUK t-shirt with just that in big letters on the front on a non uniform day.

 

Was spoken to by a deputy after numerous complaints.

What machinery? We're IT techs not Resistant Materials teachers

 

I've never encountered a situation where my tie would get stuck or caught on anything. If I do I will simply remove it I think this is just the anti-tie brigade looking for excuses

We had a work-experience kid get his Asda tie caught in the rollers of a photocopier. Didn't know whether to laugh or just leave him there with his face squashed against the machine.

I own several IT themed ties..heh..but no, they are an embuggerance in my view. As are dress trousers. Nasty lightweight flimsy snaggy material can take a running leap.

 

Smart 'n' simple has worked for the last 8 years..heh.

 

Non uniform days, again black jeans, black shoes, and black T-Shirt...all thinkgeek, all IT Themed.

 

The head quite liked the "I have a shotgun, a short temper, and a raised floor in the server room. Do not trifle with me." one. Kids like the "STFU, Please.", and the missus likes the "I void warranties" one.

 

Still got to find a suitable walking stick/cane though.

Waste of money for us. Majority of staff would not wear them and every bloody time somebody had their hair style changed they wanted a new bloody photo and badge. I gave up in the end.

Meant to wear ID badges here too. All have them but hardly anyone wears them, including myself I am sorry to say. Problem I have is I hate things clipped to clothing (as I don't have a pocket in front), hate lanyards & if I have it attached to my belt it gets no one can see it anyways. If i have combats on it gets clipped to a side pocket but I don't always so spoils that plan.

We have proximity door locks on entrances and some inner doors (doors from our foyer, doors to the staff room and ICT rooms etc...), so everyone has to have an ID card to get through those doors. And the rule is that they must be worn in a visible manner - so on a lanyard or a belt clip or the like.

The reason we have ID is that most teachers don't know many teachers outside their departments or building.

 

We get a lot of trainee teachers aswell, but I've known some teachers to be here for two or three years and when they leave the office another teacher who's also being here a long time will ask who they are.

Snickers workwear is amazing - lasts for years. My brother recommended it to me and he's a carpet fitter so needs the toughest. I've had two pairs of thier trousers - no wear after 3+ years of crawling under desks. Not cheap though - but then nothing good ever is...

This man speaks sense! We have Snickers work trousers here, in black. I also wear them to do the garden, go fishing in, and they still look good!

We WERE required to wear smart shirt, trousers and a tie, but we soon knocked than on the head! Even a four quid shirt from Asda is a waste when it's covered in toner Now we wear a black polo with the school logo on, Snickers work trousers, black trainers. No ID badges whatsoever though. No staff do here.

One school I worked at wanted me to wear a polo shirt with the school logo on it but then changed their minds when they saw my tattoo's Annoyed the other IT guys no end as they wanted to wear them and I said if they did then I would do them for discrimination.
