Tool Kit to fit around waist

Hello,

 

Anybody know of a useful tool kit to fit around the waist - something that we can wear with us all day allowing us to carry bits and pieces - such as cable snips, screwdrivers, cable ties, the odd network lead and possible a mouse or two etc?

You could just get a tool belt and put some pouches on it, like a nail pouch for mice etc

I have an electrician's Leatherman and that normally gets me by. I keep a cache of bits and pieces around the school (mice, cables, keyboards etc)

I use my handbag! It's big and roomy enough for screwdrivers, discs, etc although may not be the thing you're looking for!

I got a Leatherman that has the interchangable pieces. Is enough for random jobs as I find them. Became so useful the NM bought a departmental one as well for him!

Not tried a Gerber but not had any problems with the Leatherman and this is from 5 years use in Scouting, climbing, work use and random tooling around.

This is the all sing and dancing one though, don't know about the smaller ones though.

Leatherman is all you need

I work with stage light and sound on the weekends, and used to be my parttime job before I had to do a placement year so I use my Leatherman from then

 

Always worries me using it when kids are about, s'long as the blade doesnt get seen I suppose it's ok though.

I couldn't stand carrying that load around with me all day. The odd tool I can understand but not mice and network leads. Having said that though I suppose it depends on how often you have to replace mice/leads.

Must admit I don;t carry much go back to office or store if need anything.

 

I don't carry a network cable but do know my 11 month old loves playing with an old network cable (geek in making i think). In fact he loves any kind of cables...

They think you are busy and leave you alone!

 

I do vary the cable: sometimes it is a network cable, or maybe a power or USB.

On festive days I find a nice pretty piece of ribbon cable!

I must admit that I pull that trick too - if I want to move around the site but I don't want to be hassled then I usually carry something with lots of cables hanging out of it. Stops me getting stopped in the corridor with those 'it'll only take a minute' promises....

I forgot to take my Gerber off my belt when I flew up to Edinburgh last weekend - went through the security check and everything. Only when I was up in Edinburgh did I realise I had it and that it's got a 2.5" blade on it....whoops.

I forgot to take my Gerber off my belt when I flew up to Edinburgh last weekend - went through the security check and everything. Only when I was up in Edinburgh did I realise I had it and that it's got a 2.5" blade on it....whoops.

 

Not sure what the security was like but I know from past experience that when I've gone through customs at airports you are allowed up to a 3 inch blade ( not sure if thats the same now ) as obviously its changed after 9/11 etc and I havent tried taking anything like that with me onboard a plane.

 

Am guessing they let you take it ?

+1 for the workman trousers suggestion. If bosch do trousers I'm sure Dewalt do a rather fetching yellow number with deep pockets

 

If you can't get away with wearing yellow I'd suggest you have a look at the Helly Hansen workmans trouser range, they also do kneepads for when you're crawling on a hard surface and come in a range of dark colours.

 

CK make the best tool belt, they also make the best wire cutters as it happens. if you go with the trousers I'd carry the following around in them, pair of wire cutters/snips, fold out allen key set, no.1 philips screwdriver, and a safety knive.
