It's all capped, you go over the cap, they send you a message telling you how evil you are ruining the network for everyone then punishing you by rate limiting you. My tarriff is currently "unlimited" but the fine print is 100GB a month in the UK or 8GB abroad. 1

I am fed up of the batteries on my iPhone 'suddenly' dying when the next model is released *ahem* something written into the iOS update to kill the battery life if you have an older model. This is happened on 3 phones so I am 100% convinced something is going on! 1

OTOH @Norphy and I were talking about the iphone4s I sold to him for his partner the other day - I got it on the release date so it's a bit more than 3 years old, and its only just started losing a bit of battery life. This is a problem that plagues all the manufacturers - the batteries have a limited shelf life. Of course, if you know you intend to keep the device past two or three years then you should look for a device with a user-replaceable battery to take this into account, but the strides being made in mobile tech mean that the devices are probably due for replacement in that timeframe however you slice it. I agree but they shouldn't need charging twice a day (of normal use no watching movies or listening to music) after 12 months. That said, the iPhone 5 is indestructible, which is what I need in a phone. 1
Duranis Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I have been on Android since I first got hold of the HTC Dream Dev version and have been running the Samsung Galaxy phones for the last few years. If you are looking at Android I would ask yourself a few questions. Do you want to Root it and install custom ROMS? If so check out XDA developers forum first and see what devices have the most community support there to create your shortlist. Want a stock Android experience with quick updates soon after they come out? Probably best to go for a nexus, generally will get the updates quicker than other devices and is a more "pure" Android experience. Want a solid phone with good spec then look at the Galaxy S5, Nexus 6 or HTC One M8. Galaxy Note 4 is also very nice if you want a slightly bigger screen. The Samsung and HTC flavors of Android are pretty nicely done too. One thing to note about Android is that there will ALWAYS be a delay between updates being release and you finally getting them on your phone. This is because it first goes through the manufacturer who does there own stuff to it and then goes to the carrier that does their stuff to it. Therefore depending on your carrier and the phone it can sometimes take quite awhile for updates to roll out. If you are used to having an iPhone where everyone gets it at the same time this may annoy you. The Windows phones do look pretty nice and there are some good spec, well built, devices out there but I personally find it as restrictive as Apple iOS. However if you are really into a lot of MS services already (xbox live, etc) then it may be worth taking a look. Also like iOS its also a pretty user friendly and solid platform. 1

Exactly, I use a lot of data and I'm never going to hit 100gb in a month. Unlimited is pretty much what it is by most peoples standard.... Even giff gaff and a Huawei or OnePlusOne works out at £28pcm. I must not break the £20 barrier!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!11!!

I want to get the phones in my hands before making a decision. I'm really buying into the advise of 'pure android', but my predicament is that the Nexus 6 looks a little too large. Time to get stuck into the reviews!

Bit annoyed though because it's not stocked in any shops anywhere near me. So I'm buying it and just going off what reviews are saying Oh did I mention it's the white one.

I want to get the phones in my hands before making a decision. I really love Samsung but I'm not sure on the S6, No SD slot and non-replaceable battery are a big no-no as far as I'm concerned. Depending on your usage though (i.e. how much storage space do you actually need) it may be worth it (depending on how easy it is to get inside it to replace the battery). Batteries are a weak point on even the best phones so I always want to have the option to be able to replace it without having to buy special screwdrivers or breaking out the heat gun. JBoyd Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Just changed to a Nokia Windows phone 535 and it cost me £20 with a small monthly contract £7.50, got it in Carphone Warehouse. Early days but happy with it so far even the transfer of my old number from T-Mobile went OK but I had to transfer my contacts manually - to be honest it was quicker than setting up some automatic method. It is a bit more power hungry than the old phone but I think if I turn some stuff off it will extend the battery life. But good screen (One of the reasons for change) and front and rear camera if you are into selfies!!!! Tres bon! 1

Like most things Apple the geek got the better of me, I am aware the Operating Systems are very different and you'd get a smooth experience with the iPhone 6 although to pay £600+ for a phone that has 1GB Ram, a mediocre processor and an inferior screen to it's android counterparts blows my mind a little!!! Can't justify the price. Plus I'm sure it's wise to stay where I am the android eco-system has been good to me over the years and a lot of my paid for apps etc... are on android so it's most likely the place I'll stay. It's getting delivered today around 1pm Good ol' DPD! @Arthur thankyou for the info buddy will give it a read soon

Somehow (?!) smashed my OnePlus screen, bought a new one online, and then broke that whilst I was fitting it! >.< Outside of a case, they're rather flippin' fragile! D: 6 months left on my contract, but my XPERIA SP is just a steaming pile right now. Back button decides when it wants to work or wants to take a day off. Just yesterday I had to phone a taxi to get to work and I'd press the call button and it would just go back to the home screen and not even attempt a call (didn't show up in the call logs), it keeps putting itself on silent (as in silent-silent, not vibrate), the signal will randomly fail and everything from typing to attempting to run apps just runs soooo sluggish. Going to phone up EE and hope I can bribe them to throw me an early upgrade. Doubtful, though.
