connor_ict Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) What jobs have you guys/girls got planned for a long Wednesday at work then? Edited February 25, 2015 by connor_ict
mdench Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Setup the rest of our backups from our linux server onto our new backup server as the raid card decided it had, had enough on Monday morning. Got a guy from Netgear coming to look at WiFi, set up the rest of our offsite backup and eat the large bag of doritos sat on my desk!
connor_ict Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 That's all you need on Monday morning, the Doritos however sounds the easiest task of them all
witch Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Wait for the Ofsted panic calls. Hopefully just hide in my corner idly flicking through the server
hardtailstar Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Set up new shared areas update laptops teach kids how to use the new hall sound system create photo disks of a recent sports event show a staff member how to scan using new all in one device then following up on things sent to me in the holidays
tmcd35 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Type lots of assets into our new (we've had it a year) database while keeping half an eye on e-mails and edugeek and responding to teacher requests and daydreaming about being at home playing Tomb Raider on the PS1...
connor_ict Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Sounds a busy day im just spending the first hour or so tidying up the website a lot of old stuff on there which needs changing then hopefully a quiet afternoon to try and teach myself python
halbaradkenafin Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Pretty much just doing whatever comes up, read some powershell blogs and maybe even finish the script to automate the prestaging of new PCs into SCCM and AD. If I get really bored I might refactor a bunch of the scripts I've got to streamline them a little and consolidate some of the more useful functionality into a central repository.
localzuk Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Prepping all the music for our talent show rehearsal this afternoon. Writing some documentation. Making some changes to our cashless catering software. Writing a reference. Drinking tea.
sted Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 atm trying not to die of boredom. Replaced the ssd in the laptop I sent back over the hols so the teacher can have it back, rebuilt (just waiting for updates tom install as I return his temp laptop to kids after wiping (had 16 items in quarantine in under a fortnight so im just nuking it) rewrote my how to install office 2013 from student advantage/staff whatever its called as about a week after I wrote the old one ms changed the office 365 interface. debating doing revision for ms 70-685 exam ive booked for april (yes I probably should do windows 8.1 exams but ive passed 70-680 already so passing that one gives me a better result and means I can do a windows 8 update exam rather than 2 windows 8 ones
Arreks Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Turning into a teacher for 30 minutes while one of the IT teachers is shadowing a prospective new teacher (because no one else could cover the lesson, apparently)
sparkeh Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I've created an assessment tracker for our new AWOL system. The last job was to add all the finalised assessment statements. There are a lot so the job was given to someone else as I was told "Just typing is a waste of your time". I said that I wanted to do it to ensure it was accurate and the person who the task was given to was not renowned for her attention to detail. I was told it would be fine. Today I am correcting all the (many) typos... :/
pcstru Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Wait for the Ofsted panic calls. We had that on Monday. They are in yesterday and today. Meanwhile, I'm at home recuperating from my hernia operation. Isn't that tragic?
elsiegee40 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 We had that on Monday. They are in yesterday and today. Meanwhile, I'm at home recuperating from my hernia operation. Isn't that tragic? Some people will do anything to avoid Ofsted!
hardtailstar Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Some people will do anything to avoid Ofsted! We have had a student teacher before that when ever she started placements within a month Ofsted rang after the first 4 placements (we were fifth) she had got her lessons on point and knew exactly what they were looking for.
LeMarchand Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Fit replacement amplifier to PC/Projector set up in one area. Research removing old versions of Java via GPO/script and pushing out Adobe Reader updates (I had hoped that the reader app in Win 8+ would mean that I could get rid of AR, but the app is a bit pants). Go and see a teacher about his intermittent printing problems (which are almost certainly user error - one of "those" teachers). See another teacher to chase up wiping her laptop (full of rubbish she's installed and much quicker to reimage than root out all the junk) and listen to 1/2 an hour of how slow it is before being told she can't possibly spare it. This has been ongoing for quite some time now; I've even prepped a spare machine for interim use but she "has" to have all sorts of non-standard stuff so it's no good. Try a few things to get my Win10 working properly - I'd reinstall, but others with the same problem have reported that it didn't help.
Meldrew Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Do a site survey for a new external CCTV camera - turns out some of our darlings have been vandalising a local polytunnel
connor_ict Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Havent heard anything about OFSTED coming to our school yet, hopefully theirs a chance they've forgot to come , we just recently had pac testers in before the half term the amount of hiding what was happening old extension leads, chargers etc was funny were some people were hiding stuff!
rad Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Ofsted... who are they? Last visit was in 2007. When the call comes, I'm going to hide.
mdrabble Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 on an SCCM course all week as well as answering emails and the odd remote session....... evening when I'm not in work i'm working
thebatman Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Trying to get warm! We had no power yesterday and today there is no heating.
clockend25 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Ofsted are in so it's fairly quiet. I've got a few laptops for new staff building via MDT and I'm trying to sort out some comparative quotes on our fixed lines and mobiles as that contract is coming around for renewal again. Also chipping away at some other documentation, and began some work to put together an 8.1 build in MDT ready to rollout to a suite or two later in the year.
