Well ive lost 3.8lbs so far since January 1st!

Nice! MFP is a really great app and is definitely the key to me losing the weight I've lost. The app had some downtime the other day and I genuinely felt lost without it haha.

7lb gain over the Christmas period, not bad considering what I've consumed. Have managed to maintain my running so that's helped. Got to be good now though, got half marathon in 6 weeks and full marathon in 16 weeks, will be easier to run if I'm not 15st+ ;)

Ive used MFP since 2013 I think on and off but ive recently been writing it all down in notes and taking pictures on my phone. Along with recording the food via the app its helped me to be more focused.

Also I joined a Facebook group where they remove you from the group if you dont post your daily log for eating/exercise in the group for more than two days running without a reason why.

It has annoyed some people but they were the rules!

At the end of January they will pick a winner and that winner gets a £50 gift card of their choice.

So that has been helping motivate me to be accountable.

That's some good going! Keep us updated on your progress! I've been losing a bit, i want to fight in February so need to keep my weight down. I'm at 12 stone now from about 13, just need to keep it there till i get an opponent/weight confirmed! Hard to do when i love eating so much!

What fighting are you doing?

I train kickboxing/boxing and jiu jitsu. I've fought MMA before (with reduced rules, no elbows and no ground and pound to the head) but i think my next fight if i can get matched up will be a kickboxing bout. I can't recommend martial arts enough to anyone looking to get fit and lose weight, it's so fun and intense.

Down 2.3KG since the start of the year. Aside from trying to eat healthily I've also picked up a FitBit and ensure I hit a minimum of 10k steps a day every day. Sometimes I need to head out for a walk after work which is muddy but fine... however the weather well and truly turned last night and finished my last 2k steps in a torrential downpour!

I have been known to stride up and down the living room to get to 10K. Mr wITch sometimes sits and just waves his arm about to get to the requisite number - not really the point :)

Usually do this if I have up to 600 steps left. Usually go out after work but had to go to a residents association meeting so no time for a proper walk. Drove the Mrs crazy getting 2.5k steps in a smallish house!

I've set my Fitbit to 11500 steps target, I make sure I check the furthest away rooms every day (It can be 400 steps from one end of the school to another) - plus we are a split site, so walking between sites adds 800 steps each way.

I find a good target is to aim for 1000 steps per hour from 9:00 - 21:00 I'm averaging 14000 a day, which I think is ok.

If I have to run on the spot in the evening to get up to my required Fitbit goal, which isn't often I like to combine lazy living with fitness and play computer games at the same time... The Nintendo Switch is perfect for this as when it is docked on the TV, you can then use the two joycon controllers one in each hand as you jog on the spot! 😎 Edited by sllorep

I hope this is okay to share! (mods: understand if it's not).

I've started a fitness clothing brand: www.never-compromise.com

Work in progress as need to re-do some photos for the site etc but going surprisingly well so far :) It's all either screen printed or vinyl heat-pressed by hand by me. I've spent most my time trying different manufacturers stuff trying to find the right gear etc (including the ladies leggings lol!)

There's a 10% discount code if you sign up to the newsletter or you can use the code EDUGEEK for free shipping (whichever works out cheapest :))

Another weigh in day. Another bit of weight lost. :)

Since the 1st of January I have lost 9lbs through eating less than 2000 calories and minimal exercise.

Going to increase the exercise now that my injuries and Snow has gone :)

Aiming for a stone lost before end of this month.

Heh... Haven't ever thought about weight loss, but recently I had a bit of a scare with my health.

I need to start loosing weight. But i never have the motivation.

(having a look through the links already posted in the thread now)

has anyone got any diet recipes they would recommend and any specific things to do at the gym to help lose weight?

I've not stepped foot in a gym for the past 4 years since i left secondary school.

and i have no clue where to start.

i have an ideal weight i would like to be but i don't know how long i should set myself to lose it in.

Any help appreciated.

Use the app My Fitness Pal, I record all my eating and exercise in it.

Walking and cycling are good for weight loss, but do core exercises at home like squats, press ups and sit ups.

I have an app called 30 Days Fitness Challenge which takes you through core exercises.

Ive not been to a gym at all this year, just been swimming, cycling and walking when I have had time.

Ive not got any recipes as I tend to eat meat/fish and veg or soups.

The key to loosing weight is a calorie deficit. Make sure you loose more calories through exercise than you eat.

^^ this.

Easiest thing is to bulk buy meat from a butchers or website, freeze into portion sizes. Eat vegetables and meat with spices for flavour.

Meal prep is also important. Make a load of one thing and portion it off. I did this with curries, bolognaise, chilli etc.

I stumble when I'm feeling too lazy to cook, but bulk cooking helped with this a lot.

You'd really benefit from finding a sport/exercise you enjoy and get into. If you hate running on a treadmill in the gym, don't make that your main source of exercise as you'd likely just give up after a while as you don't enjoy it! Try out different sports and activities too see what takes your fancy. Try weightlifting/Olympic lifting, swimming or try martial arts/boxing, 5 a side footall etc. When you really enjoy a sport the weight just falls off when matched with a balanced diet, and a not a restrictive diet. I don't mean to state the obvious, but sometimes people get caught up with thinking exercise is just treadmill or rowing machine etc, but it doesn't have to be if it's not for you. Diet can be simple when mixed with a good exercise life style, lower your sugar intake, increase vegetable intake and generally stay away from processed foods, unless it's a treat once or twice a week.
