There isn't enough damage for it to be recorded. Therefore, you don't have to declare what is, essentially, a minor shunt. Don't want to trivialise your accident, but just pointing out that in the grand scheme of things, it's nothing to worry about on a resale basis. Just make sure they do a decent spray job when they repair it. Check for overspray and slight colour mismatches.

I've been told your car can be damaged not just cosmetically but sometimes mechanically and it won't reveal itself until days/weeks/months after! :(

True

My dad had a head on accident many years ago in one of the old boxy Nissan hatchbacks. It was all jigged straight by the accident repair centre (supposedly). It drove OK after the accident but it broke 2 gearboxes in 3 years after that - so something wasnt straight in it......

Considering the pictures and undeniable footage I don't think they'd be able to worm their way out of it so you should be okay - I'm glad you only had minor injuries, could've been a lot worse if you didn't swerve (or if you did but the incoming car didn't stop!)

I'm glad you're okay! That view always scares me because that could kill me on a bike. Had a near miss that was almost exactly this except on a dual carriageway last month, so luckily nothing oncoming.

If your frame isn't damaged and the external damage can be repaired it shouldn't devalue it much if at all.

P.S. your singing is terrible ;)

Bit of T-Cut and it'll be fine! :)

Seriously, though, nothing there that can't be fixed perfectly well by the looks of it. Can't see it being enough to be recorded either - don't forget, it only gets recorded (and therefore affects value) if its written off.

Glad you're okay mate, had this with my second car, but it got dragged on so long because the person responsible didn't pick up his phone to his insurance company, no idea why, couldn't have been the fact he caused another incident the week before...

Isn't the completely incorrect date on the video going to cause problems using it as evidence?

The date is correct - he was actually travelling at 88mph :)

The inspection chap is coming tomorrow to come and have a look at it!! I've asked on the Honda Civic Forum I'm on to see whether or not they think it's a write off and most of them have said it could well be?

I had also taken it to my local Honda Garage just so they could have a quick look over it before this chap comes tomorrow, they reckon the frame is damaged due to the door being so scewed the door actually is attached directly to the frame on a Honda Civic so if that's bent it'll cost more to replace than what the cars worth, they also mentioned my drive shaft (which could have apparently damaged the gearbox) has been pushed inward at force and the panels and respray alone they said will cost around £4,500. They also said due to the colour of my car the panels that they aren't replacing will look a more faded colour to the other panels on my car that are being fixed so to get it even they said they'd have to respray the whole thing....

Do you think it'll be a write-off? & if so what normally happens if declared a write-off? I've never done this kind of thing before!!

If it gets declared a write off you have to HOUND the insurance company to get the money (market value of the car). I've had 2 write offs. One not my fault, one my fault. I got paid quicker on the non-fault claim, but maybe that's because my car was worth <£1000. The second write off was a PITA to get the money for on account of a private reg being on the car and the insurance company telling me RUBBISH INFO, like, oh we will sort out the private reg, then a week later, oh no you need to take it off and oh we need all the paperwork from the car... someone told you a week ago... ummmm no they didn't.

GOOD LUCK!

you should suggest that your insurance company pay you and then they can faff about getting it back. If it happens... you still might get it fixed yet.

Don't worry - it should be fairly straightforward. My son's partner has just had her car written off and the other guy's insurance company have already offered her a likely £2000 for it, which is the market value of the car in the condition it was in. It could have been mended but due to issues with the wheel arch it would cost far more than the car is worth to repair.

She got hit on Monday, got a courtesy car yesterday and her car is being picked up for assessment today.

She was told to deal with the other guy's insurance or she would have to pay the excess, which would be recoverable but she would have to wait.

Oh yeah... Country girl shake it for me :p

It's a shame country music is under-appreciated in the UK. Are you a Yankee?

(Also nice to know you're still alive :), the dash-cam was pretty cool)

Be wary of what they offer you on the write off figure.

Parkers.co.uk is a good site to check out on what your car value would be.

Why are insurance companies making it so difficult these days, it used to be you'd speak to your insurers and they would deal with everything and claim off the others if it was the other partys fault.
